About Robert Hardaway
Dr. Hardaway received his B.A. from the University of Denver in 1936, and was awarded his M.D. cum laude from Washington University School of Medicine in 1939.

Highly regarded for his skill and knowledge in the field of medicine specializing in shock and trauma, Dr. Hardaway has more than six decades of service as a physician, starting his 35-year career with the U.S. Army Medical Corps stationed at Schofield Barracks, Pearl Harbor where he treated the first casualties of World War II on December 7, 1941. After a distinguished career at multiple posts overseas and in the U.S., including Director, Division of Surgery at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research from 1960-67 and Commanding Officer, 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany from 1967-70, he retired from the military as a Brigadier General commanding the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas in 1975. In 1976 he continued his research and teaching as Professor of Surgery at Texas Tech Medical School until 2002.

A respected author, Dr. Hardaway is recognized for his research on intravascular coagulation and hemorrhagic shock. While contributing over 300 articles to professional medical journals, he also authored several books including "Syndromes of Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation," the "Clinical Management of Shock," "Shock the Reversible State of Dying," and "Treatment of the Wounded in Vietnam." He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and a Fellow of the International Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care Society.

Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Hardaway has received recognition in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the World. Awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, U.S. Army Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, U.S. Army Commendation Medal, First Prize at the Army Science Conference 1964, and First Prize at the American Association of Blood Banks in 1967.
