Dr. Thomas Williams Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Contributions to Medicine

    CANYON LAKE, TX, May 25, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Thomas E. Williams, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Williams is an accomplished pediatric hematologist/oncologist and a pharmaceutical executive. He earned a bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1958, and later went on to graduate in 1962 from the University Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Dr. Williams embarked on his medical career as a rotating intern at Hermann Hospital in Houston. He then completed his clinical training in a residency in pediatrics at the Children's Medical Center in Dallas and as a fellow in pediatric hematology/oncology at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville where as an associate in its cancer research laboratory he contributed to the understanding of the cellular kinetics of estrogen. Thereafter he taught medical students and residents at the University Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he served as the medical director of the Santa Rosa Children's Hospital Cancer Research and Treatment Center while simultaneously administering its Bone Marrow Transplant Center until he resigned in 1994. Now, Dr. Williams, also known as "Dr. Tom" to his patients, is currently a primary care provider throughout Texas.

Dr. Williams' contributions to medical research include early efforts to promote the National Marrow Donor Program, the first unrelated bone marrow donor database, and his development of pharmaceutical applications for children's cancer research. The first unrelated-donor bone marrow transplant in Texas was performed at the Santa Rosa Bone Marrow Transplant Center. He then utilized the culmination of his life's research and collaborations at Orphan Medical, ILEX Oncology and ICON Clinical Research to found Thistle Advisors International Inc, in 2007 to continue to help pharmaceutical companies meet FDA standards to obtain clinical approvals for new medications in hematological malignancies and hematopoietic-stem cell transplantation.

Dr. Williams gained motivation in the medical field from his desire to help people who suffer from life-threatening diseases, particularly cancer. His early mentors include William G. Thurman, MD and Milton H. Donaldson, MD who were among the first to develop cancer treatments in children. Dr. Williams was honored with the Recipient Travel Award from the Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics in 1968. He was also named an American Cancer Society Advanced Clinical Fellow. He is a member of The American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Association for Cancer Research. Further, Dr. Williams has been honored with inclusions in Who's Who In Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World.
