Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Gignac has led an extraordinary life as a leader in her community of Cochise County, Arizona. From humble beginnings as a data processor to supervising an entire county, she has served as a leader for much of her professional life with a penchant toward managing the resources around her. She held the position until 1988, serving in leadership positions with a dizzying spread of businesses, organizations, and governing entities. Notable mentions within her impressive resume include the Bank of Cochise, the Arizona Board of Regents, the Sierra Vista Industrial Development Commission, the Arizona Utilities Investor's Association, the Water Utilities Association of Arizona, the Organization of U.S. Border Cities and Counties, the Sierra Vista Board of Adjustment, the Wells Fargo Bank advisory board, the 1980 Republican National Convention, the Sierra Vista Charter Board of Freeholders, the Arizona Thunder Mountain Republican Women, and the Arizona Town Hall in Phoenix, and as a partner of Darby, Gignac and Associates.

In her current civic duties, she is an arbiter for the Cochise County Justice Courts Alternative Dispute Resolution Program, a member of the Cochise Community Creative Writing Celebration Committee, and the Sierra Vista Herald Readers' Advisory Board.

In 1988, Ms. Gignac stepped out of public service and served as vice president of Bella Vista Water/Ranches, a position from which she retired in 2009. Throughout her long term of service to Cochise County, Ms. Gignac received many awards, including the 2000 Vision Award by the Commission on Status of Women, the 1995 DeConcini Award from Fort Huachuca 50, 1994 Citizen of the Year by the city of Sierra Vista, 1994 Woman of the Year by the Cochise County Rep. Committee, and 1977 Lady of the Year by Beta Sigma Phi. She received the 1988 Medal of Honor from the Daughters of the American Revolution and an honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of Arizona in 2004. Ms. Gignac was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women, and the 2009 to 2010 volume of Who's Who in Finance and Business. She also enjoys reading, writing, and gardening and is currently working on her memoir.
