Pamela Higdon Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Writing & Editing

Pamela Higdon is a former educator who has written and edited several animal care books



    CASTROVILLE, TX, May 26, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Pamela Leis Higdon has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Pamela Higdon is a freelance writer and editor based in Castroville, Texas. She possesses nearly four decades of professional writing and editing experience, having worked for a number of children's publishers and other magazines. From 1987 to 1990, Ms. Higdon was an editor and writer for Fancy Publications' Bird Talk Magazine and Birds USA in Irvine, Calif. She then worked in Carson, Calif., as a writer, editor, product developer, acquisitions editor, and project manager for Educational Insights. She has written, edited and copyedited a wide variety of projects on a freelance basis since 1994. She is noted for her dedication to fact checking, as well as her strong cultural knowledge and background.

Some of Ms. Higdon's works as an author and co-author include the children's educational books, "Science Notes: How Things Move," "Pattern Blocks," and "Third Grade Review." She has also written numerous pet care and animal care books, including "The Essential Cockatiel," "The Essential Zebra Finch," "Holistic Care for Birds: A Manual of Wellness and Healing," and "Happy Healthy Pets: The Quaker Parrot." Ms. Higdon has edited and copy edited several monthly medical publications and newsletters as well. She has also contributed columns to newspapers and articles to professional journals.

Furthermore, Ms. Higdon has written and edited for multiple professional and civic organizations, such as the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials, Castroville Historic Landmark Commission, Castroville Monthly Utility Newsletter, the Mills Branch Village Board of Directors, and the National Wildlife Fund. She also wrote a weekly column on restoration of landmarks in Castroville, Texas. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Historical Landmark Commission, among a number of other organizations. Ms. Higdon served as the first recording secretary for the Alsatian Pioneers Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas in 2013. She has been active in many other community organizations as well. In 1997, Ms. Higdon received a community service award from the Mills Branch Village Board of Directors, Kingwood, Texas.

Prior to becoming a fulltime writer and editor, Ms. Higdon began her career in the field of education. She earned a Bachelor of Science in education from Texas Technological University in 1966 and became a certified teacher in the state of Texas. Notably, she spent eight years teaching third grade in Saudi Arabia. While there, she also served as an after school computer instructor and district language arts committee member.

Ms. Higdon's various accomplishments were taken into consideration when she was chosen to be featured in the 60th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, the 23rd through 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World, and the 24th through 28th editions of Who's Who of American Women.
