TOME, JAPAN, June 14, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Dr. Masaki Tan a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Tan celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Japan is well known for the remarkable longevity of its citizens, thanks in part to physicians like Dr. Tan who have devoted over 40 years to the betterment of healthcare. Dr. Tan has kept up an invigorating international correspondence, and currently serves as director of the NAKADA Geriatric Health and Welfare Facilities, ensuring that the revered elderly are properly looked after in the prefecture of Miyagi in the northeastern part of Japan.

Dr. Tan was born in 1946, or the twenty-first year of the Showa period, one year after the dissolution of the empire and the establishment of the State of Japan. In keeping with the spirit of enlightenment the era was named after, Dr. Tan sought higher education at the Tohoku University in Sendai, earning a Bachelor of Medicine and a Doctor of Medicine. He taught as an assistant professor in the department of surgery at Tohoku University while earning an LL.B. from Kinki University in Osaka, Japan, a degree he received in 1985.

Newly certified, Dr. Tan served at Ofunato Prefectural Hospital from 1985 to 1988, the Kitakami Prefectural Hospital from 1988 to 1994, and the Isawa Prefectural Hospital from 1994 to 1998, each time as head of the department of surgery. During this time he wrote "Recent Advances in Chemotherapy" and "New Applications of OK-432." Ok-432 is also known as Picibanil, approved by Japan in 1995 for the treatment of lymphangiomas in children.

In 1998 Dr. Tan became vice director at the Wakayanagi Hospital at Kurihara, a post he held until 2011 when he became director of the Kitakami Kiboen Geriatric Health and Welfare Facilities. Notably, Kitakami is located just to the north of Miyagi prefecture, epicenter of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. The city of Tome in Miyagi was one of the cities hit by the disaster, not far from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant that was disrupted in the earthquake. In 2013, Dr. Tan moved to NAKADA Geriatric Health and Welfare Facilities in Tome, where he serves as director to this day.

Dr. Tan has a rich correspondence internationally and has been honored by numerous societies. He is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Chemical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the International Society of Personalized Medicine.
