TEMPLETON, CA, July 13, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nella Girolo has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An award-winning singer and voice instructor, Ms. Girolo celebrates a career in live performance and voice education that spanned many years until her retirement in 2003. She dedicated much of her time to Cuesta College, where she held various roles including voice and theatre instructor, drama and music coordinator, and chairman of the performing arts department. Considered an expert in all areas of voice instruction, including singing techniques, voice development and performance preparation, Ms. Girolo held additional noteworthy roles in her career including artist in residence and assistant voice professor at Iowa State University, music instructor for Johnston High School, advisory board member for the Pacific Repertory Opera, president of the Central Coast Music Teachers Association, and board member for Women of Distinction. In her retirement, Ms. Girolo continues to support the college as the vice president of the Cuesta College Foundation.

Ms. Girolo began playing piano at the age of four, soloed with orchestras in high school, and switched to voice in college. Her father played the clarinet for silent movies from the age of ten with the rest of the family. He was on the road from 1932 to 1937 in a big hand. Her Uncle Lloyd, who played the trumpet, was in all of the big bands in the New York area until he received his union card. He then played with Charlie Barnett and Louis Armstrong was heard to remark on his talent many years later.

Ms. Girolo's singing career was extensive. She appeared in solo concerts across most of the East and Midwest and toured for The State of Iowa, including concerts in New York City and at Yale University. She also performed for Aaron Copland's 70th birthday in a series of concerts culminating in New York City after working with the composer in his home on the music for the tour. After moving to California, Ms. Girolo performed in many concerts including with the Santa Barbara Orchestra and the Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo Orchestras. She was also a soloist with the orchestra conducted by Carmen Dragon. While the artist in residence at Iowa State University, the State of Iowa paid her to give concerts in small communities that couldn't afford to have a community concert Association. The three artists involved were Mr. Girolo as a singer, Eugene Pridonoff, pianist and Charles Tregor, violinist.

In recognition of her professional excellence in her career, Ms. Girolo was named Layperson of the Year by Phi Delta Kappa, Outstanding Member of the Year by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Outstanding Academy Employee by the Cuesta College Foundation. Additionally, she was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women. To prepare for a career in education, Ms. Girolo first achieved success in her own academic studies. She attended Drake University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Music in 1960 and a master's degree in 1964. A certified elementary and secondary school educator, she continued in her professional development by taking coursework at the Music Academy of the West and the University of California, Irvine. She is the author of the book "The Wonderful World of Rosie Posey and Kishkekosh," published in 1994.

To remain at the top of her field, Ms. Girolo affiliates with the American Association of University Women, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and Kappa Kappa Gamma, for which she served as secretary of her local alumni chapter from 1991 to 2009. As she looks to the future, Ms. Girolo intends to continue in her work with the Cuesta College Foundation while taking on new musical opportunities as they arise.
