Dr. Mustafa served as a research assistant for the department of mechanical engineering and at the Center for Advanced Vehicle and Extreme Environment Electronics at Auburn University, USA. He also spent time as a lecturer and assistant professor in the department of mechanical engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology from 2005 to 2008, teaching the following courses: Basic Mechanical Engineering; Problem Classes on Mechanics of Machinery; Computer Programming Languages; Fluid Machinery; Steam Laboratories; Heat Transfer; Thermodynamics; and Mechanical Engineering Drawing - I & II. During 2004, Dr. Mustafa was an industrial trainee for Beximco Pharmaceutical Ltd., in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Employed at Applied Materials, Inc., since 2014, the company is a global leader in materials engineering solutions for the semiconductor, flat panel display and solar photovoltaic industries, offering consulting, semiconductor services, display services, solar services, and nanochip fab solutions for clients. The co-author of "Hydrodynamic Characteristics of an Oscillating Viscoelastic Squeeze Film" in Viscoelasticity: Theories, Types and Models, published by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. in 2011, Dr. Mustafa has also published dozens of journal articles and conference papers since 2005. Furthermore, Dr. Mustafa served as an editor for the Journal of Experimental and Applied Mechanics as well as a reviewer for the Journal of Microelectronics Reliability and the Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer.
A member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and the Surface Mount Technology Association, Dr. Mustafa has spent time as a member of the organizing committee for an international conference on mechanical engineering and a 2005 and 2007 exhibition, which were both organized by the department of mechanical engineering at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. A member of the Golden Key International Honor Society for being one of the top performing U.S. graduate students in the field of mechanical engineering, this honor was based solely on the criteria of academic achievements. Notably, Dr. Mustafa holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and a Master of Science and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University.
Most recently, Dr. Mustafa was elected to receive the 2017 Albert Nelson Marques Lifetime Achievement Award. He has earned several other awards over the course of his career as well, including a Team Excellence Award by the MDP division of Applied Materials in 2015, and several Best Poster awards from Auburn University and the IEEE. He currently has four patents pending.
