Architect HyoMan Kim founded IROJE KHM Architects in 1990 as principle of his company. As an architect, he strives to achieve the legitimacy and purity of architecture in all of his work, while also attempting to restore the identity of urban architecture culture in Korea in an age where blind westernization has been inherited. Exploring and researching the traditional nature of Korean architecture, in both past and present times, to establish unique and distinguished identities, his hopes are to find the meaning and grounds on which to establish the existence of Korean architectural culture locally, as well as globally.
Taking a very modern approach to his designs, Mr. Kim specializes in architectural design, supervision, interior design and supervision, graphic design, furniture design, design for renovation and supervision, urban design and site planning, and feasibility study. In addition to running his architectural firm, Mr. Kim has been a professor at Sahmyook University in Seoul since 2012. He previously taught at the Graduate School of Architecture for Kyeonggi University, as well as at the University of Seoul and Dankook University.
A recipient of dozens of awards in his field, including, most recently, a 2016 Architizer A+ Award by Archi-Fiore, a 2016 Iconics Award by Hwa Hun, Blooming House, and a 2016 German Design Award, also by Hwa Hun, Blooming House, Mr. Kim has been included in the 2012 edition of Who's Who in Asia, and the last four editions of Who's Who in the World.
Mr. Kim has participated, by invitation, in a number of international exhibitions, including the Good Life in N.Y., Vertical Factory by N.Y. University, Paju Book City by AEDAS Gallery in Berlin, Germany, the Modern Architecture to Make History Alive, which was hosted by the Japan Institute of Architects, and the UIA General Meeting Invitation Exhibition in Torino, Italy. His works have been published in every country of the world, and he was a contributing architect at the 15th Venice Biennale in 2016. Remaining active as a member of the Seoul Public Architects, Mr. Kim also spent time as an editorial advisor of CONCEPT magazine in Seoul.
