Bill Van Burkleo Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

    CORPUS CHRISTI, TX, August 24, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Bill Van Burkleo a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Van Burkleo celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Dr. Van Burkleo attended Tulsa Will Rogers High School from 1957 to 1960. There he was captain of the football team and lettered in football, basketball and track his junior and senior years. He received numerous awards for his athletic talents. Dr. Van Burkleo was the Tulsa World Oklahoma High School Football Player of the Year in 1959. He is also the recipient of The Jim Thorpe Award (Member of All Time Greats of Oklahoma Football Team for the Decade of the 1950s). In January of 2018 he will be inducted into the Tulsa Public Schools Athletic Hall of Fame.

Initially going to the University of Oklahoma as a pre-med student and on football scholarship he lettered as a sophomore. He then transferred to the University of Tulsa where he played on the 1964 Bluebonnet Bowl Championship team. While at the University of Tulsa, Dr. Van Burkleo was also in the Air Force ROTC where he received flight training. He now holds a commercial pilot license with ratings for multi-engine, land and sea and instruments in both the United States and Canada. He graduated from the University of Tulsa with a Bachelor's degree in 1965.

Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers he was signed by the Dallas Cowboys and was last cut in 1965. From there, Dr. Van Burkleo went to Canada to play at Ottawa, Calgary, and Hamilton. He played the next seven years as a defensive back, quarterback and punter in the Canadian Football League (CFL), where he won four Grey Cups. While living in Canada, Dr. Van Burkleo was part owner of general manager of an advertising agency and publishing company that published all of the CFL football programs and published a magazine, "Sports Canada," similar to "Sports Illustrated" of the U.S. He also produced firm and video for Canadian network and cable television.

Leaving football behind him in 1973, Dr. Van Burkleo returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma to work in the newly formed Tulsa Cable Television as the director of sports and special events while preparing and pursuing a career as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1981.

After completing his internship at Corpus Christi Osteopathic Hospital, Dr. Van Burkleo practiced rural family medicine in Antlers and Colbert, Oklahoma while moonlighting at several emergency rooms in the state. After a few years he practiced only emergency medicine and in 1990 was named Emergency Medical Director of Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma. During this time he was also Emergency Medical Director at Carl Albert Hospital, the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center also in Ada, Oklahoma. In 1997 he left Ada to become the Regional Medical Director for Spectrum Emergency Care, and for the next three years oversaw operations of the emergency room staffing in many hospitals in several states of the Western U.S.A. Later, Dr. Van Burkleo worked for and helped establish emergency physician providers for several other companies. Finally, in 2010, after logging over 40,000 hours in emergency room coverage, Dr. Van Burkleo opened his own family health clinic and minor emergency room in Corpus Christi, Texas. This is where he now still practices medicine.

A diplomate of the National Board of Osteopathic Examiners and a fellow of the Association of Emergency Physicians, Dr. Van Burkleo has served as a member of the clinical faculty for the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery at Oklahoma State University. He would later spend time as the director of emergency services for the Chickasaw Nation, vice-president of medical affairs for Annashne Corporation, and as an affiliate faculty member of the American Heart Association. He also had the opportunity to lecture at the University of Hefei Medical School in the People's Republic of China.

A past member of the American Association of Physician Specialists, the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Family Practice, the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association, and the Southeastern Oklahoma Osteopathic Association, where he briefly served as president, Dr. Van Burkleo is also a fellow of the Association of Emergency Physicians. He has been highlighted in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
