Dr. Hirvensalo is an award-winning orthopedist who has been excelling in the medical field since establishing his career more than 25 years ago. He became a certified orthopedic surgeon in 1989 after completing his medical education at Helsinki University, the oldest and largest institution of academic education in Finland with specialized focus on the scientific community. Dr. Hirvensalo is considered an expert in many areas of orthopedic surgery and devotes his work to the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of injuries, disorders and diseases of the body's musculoskeletal system. Regularly, he sees patients with varying needs, from those suffering from broken bones, pelvic fractures and hip joint dysplasia, and degenerative conditions such as diseases of the spine.
In recognition of his professional excellence, Dr. Hirvensalo was listed in Who's Who in the World on four occasions. His outstanding work has also led to opportunities in his field, including chairman of the musculoskeletal division of surgery at Helsinki University Hospital 2000-2014. After that he has been appointed to Medical Commander for Preparedness and Disasters (Helsinki University Hospital, 2015-). He also has worked as medical head of the Finnish Patient Incurance Centre since 1996. Dr. Hirvensalo has previously served as the secretary of the Finnish Surgical Society and president of the Finnish Orthopedic Association.
