Koji Kanagawa Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Kanagawa is a professor and was dean of the school of management and innovation at the University of Shizuoka where he studies and teaches public policy, third party policy, and local government affairs. He has been frequently invited as a guest lecturer across Japan, and has advised on many regional government committees. In the mid- 2000s, Dr. Kanagawa was invited to conduct research on charitable organizations in areas of social exclusion in England. This highlight in his career is documented in the award-winning volumes "NPOs in Collaborative Governance: A Study of UK Partnership Policy" in 2008, and "Evaluation of Regeneration Policy by Partnership in UK- The Third Way and Big Society" in 2013.

Born to Syozo and Ikuko Kanagawa in 1956, Dr. Kanagawa grew up in Kakogawa as a young man deeply interested in public issues. After he graduated from Waseda University with an LLB in 1980, he pursued an MA in policy science at Saitama University. In 1986, Dr. Kanagawa graduated and became a staff member with the industrial policy division in the Hyogo government in Kobe, Japan. He discovered that in order to conduct policy more effectively, he had to pursue research, and in 1991, he entered the Research Institute of Regional Policy in Kobe, Japan. Dr. Kanagawa served there for nine years, becoming senior researcher, and began to lecture at the nearby Kobe University. In 2001, he became an associate professor at the Fukuoka Institute of Technology.

Since 2001, Dr. Kanagawa has served in many roles with civic groups, notably as board director for the nonprofit NPO Fukuoka, as well as a committee member with Iwata City General Plan, the Fujinokuni NPO Fund, the Hyogo Voluntary Fund, the Kurashiki City Partnership Guideline Committee, and the Suruga Ward Shizuoka City Resident Committee. He still serves as an inspector for the Institute Hyogo Machi Kurashi in Kobe, chairman for the Shizuoka City Committee Promoting Citizens Activity, and as a specialist with the editing committee of the History of Shizuoka Prefecture.

In 2005, Dr. Kanagawa accepted a position as professor at Okayama University of Science, and in 2010, he went on to the University of Shizuoka. Within three years of arriving at the esteemed institution, he was made dean of the graduate school for management and information. Notable universities that have hosted Dr. Kanagawa include Kobe University, Kinki University, Fukuoka Social Medical Welfare University, the Nagasaki Prefectural University, the Himeji Dokkyo University, and Konan University in Kobe.

Dr. Kanagawa's notable works include "Regeneration from Great Hanshin Earthquake" in 1998, "Civic Enterprise and Welfare Community, New Dimension of Social Welfare" in 1999, "Management of Regions and NPOs, The Japan's Road to Pluralism: Transforming Local Communities in the Global Era" in 2003, "Policy and Management of Public Private Partnership" in 2006, and "Present Condition of Third Sector, Local Innovation in Shizuoka" in 2013. He has contributed to many professional journals, and is affiliated with the Society of Third Sector Research, the Association of International Public Policy Studies, the Japan Society of Urbanology, the Japan NPO Research Association, the Japan Society of Household Economics, the Japan Association for the Study of Local Government, the Japanese Society of Public Administration, the Japan Association Planning Administration, the Japan Association of Community Policy, and the Japan Association of Social & Economic Systems.

Numerous societies have granted Dr. Kanagawa research grants, including the Japan Society for Promotion of Science, the Institute for the Study of the Humanities and Social Sciences at Doshisha University, and the Research Institute for Economics and Business Administration at Kobe University. Dr. Kanagawa was selected for inclusion in seven volumes of Who's Who in the World from 2010 to 2016 and two volumes of Who's Who in Science and Engineering from 2011 to 2017. He enjoys reading historic books, tennis, skiing, jogging, and watching movies or documentaries. Dr. Kanagawa has three children.
