Mr. Griffin has dedicated 32 years of his professional life to the law firm of Vinson and Elkins, LLP, serving to the position of partner in charge of the Dallas office. His proudest moment was guiding 14 lawyers from the Houston home office to establish the branch office in Dallas, which now has 150 legal representatives. Mr. Griffin is now retired, and enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, Campbell IV, Stephanie Davis, Austin Davis, and Griffin Davis.
Born in 1929 to Campbell Arthur Sr. and Clara M. Griffin in Joplin, Missouri, Mr. Griffin earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri in 1951 and a Master's degree in accounting in 1952. He served his country for two years as a member of the U.S. Army Audit Agency, and went on to complete a JD from the University of Texas in 1957. Fresh from passing the bar exam in Texas, Mr. Griffin joined the legacy firm of Vinson and Elkins, LLP, which has served an international clientele of businesses for over one hundred years, especially in energy and finance. Mr. Griffin became a partner at the firm in 1968, and was appointed to the management committee in 1981. In 1986, he was entrusted with establishing the Dallas branch office of Vinson and Elkins LLP.
When not handling legal matters, Mr. Griffin has served as an adjunct professor of administrative science at Jones Graduate School of Administration, based in Rice University. He has served as an elder with Bethany Christian in the 1960s, and is active with St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston. Mr. Griffin has been on the board of the Houston Pops Orchestra, and the board of Cornell Companies, the council of the City of Hunters Creek Village in Texas, and president of the Windcliff Property Owners Association.
In a professional capacity, Mr. Griffin has been a leading member of the Houston Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, and the Texas Bus Law Foundation. He is a member of the Houston Racquet Club, a senior member of the St. Charles Bay Hunting Club, and has served as director with the Villa d-Este Condominium Owner's Association.
Mr. Griffin was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the World, two volumes of Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and the 1996 to 1997 volume of Who's Who in Finance and Industry. He is the father of Campbell III and Laura Ann Davis.
