Nancy Childs Kirkland Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

    GAINESVILLE, FL, September 07, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Nancy Child Kirkland a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Ms. Kirkland celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Handling classes of rowdy youngsters while infusing them with a measure of knowledge has been the pride of Dr. Kirkland's admirable career as a secondary school teacher. Since 1982, she has taught English at the Buchholz High School in Gainesville, with a sum total of more than 58 years in the profession of education. Outside of the classroom, Dr. Kirkland leads her peers in developing new curriculums and streamlining classrooms for better efficiency.

Born in Ideal, Georgia, in 1937 to Millard Geddings and Bessie Vioda Childs, Dr. Kirkland studied speech and religious education at La Grange College to earn an AB in 1959. She served as director of Christian education at the First Methodist Church in Thomson, Georgia, and went on to teach English in Flanagan Jr.-Sr. High School in Illinois after marrying in 1961. From 1963 to 1964, Dr. Kirkland taught English and social studies at Woodland Junior High School in Illinois, and went on to teach fifth grade for a year at Sheridan Elementary School in nearby Bloominton. Instructing high school was more her cup of tea, and she returned to the discipline at Samson High School in Alabama.

In 1966, Dr. Kirkland found herself in Florida once more, and taught at Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton. After two years, she accepted a position with Marianna High School, and in 1977, she earned a MS from Troy State University. Dr. Kirkland became director of the developmental reading laboratory at Chiefland High School in Florida in 1979, and joined Buchholz High School in 1982, serving as assistant chair of the English department from 1989 to 1992. In 1993, she completed an EdD in child and youth studies from Nova University, exemplifying the role of a teacher as a lifelong learner.

Over the course of a stellar education career, Dr. Kirkland has been certified to teach professional refinements in developing effectiveness, as well as teacher effectiveness and classroom handling. She co-founded the KPS Leadership Specialists consultancy in 1993, and has chaired the Buchholz facilities committee in Gainesville since 1993. Dr. Kirkland taught English at the Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville from 1982 to 1987, and led the Buchholz school advisory council as co-chair from 1994 to 1995. She has also occupied positions as teacher, director, and trainer at Sunday schools, as well as positions with vacation church schools, church groups, and coordinator in Illinois, Georgia, and Alabama with the Gainesville Sister Cities Youth Correspondence Program. Dr. Kirkland has been an erstwhile actress and director with Little Theaters in Florida.

In addition to numerous civic groups, Dr. Kirkland is affiliated with the American Association of University Women, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Council of Teachers of English, the Alachua Council of Teachers of English, the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce, Altrusa International of Gainesville, the Gainesville Woman's Club, the Gainesville Garden Club, and Altrusa House. She received a 1992 grant from the Alachua Multicultural Council.

For many years dedication to secondary education, Dr. Kirkland was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who of American Women, two volumes of Who's Who in American Education, and the 1999 to 2000 volume of Who's Who in the South and Southwest. Dr. Kirkland enjoys crafts, sewing, fishing, travel, and bridge. She has two children: Vianne Elizabeth French Marchese and Nancy Alysia French Joyce.
