Roy Theodore Englert Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

An accomplished listee, Mr. Englert celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Mr. Englert served for 45 years as an expert attorney in banking and securities law, notably with a substantial term as Counsel to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in the U.S. Treasury Department from 1951 to 1962. The office is an independent bureau that charters, regulates, and supervises all national banks and foreign banks in the U.S., ensuring a measure of control by the government over the flow of currency in the country.

Born in Nashville to Roy T. and Ruth Rowe Englert in 1922, Mr. Englert is a member of the greatest generation and participated in the D Day operations at Normandy as a lieutenant of the U.S. Naval Reserve. He proudly served with the United States Military from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Englert graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1943, and in 1951 he earned a JD from Columbia University, passing the bar in Tennessee and the District of Columbia. While serving at the Treasury Department he earned an LL.M from The George Washington University. As Mr. Englert will freely admit, he entered the law because it was a profession where he could work and read at the same time.

In 1958, Mr. Englert becme chief counsel of the OCC, and in 1962 he became assistant general counsel of the Treasury Department. In 1966, he was appointed deputy general counsel. Mr. Englert was honored for his role with a 1972 Exceptional Service Award by the U.S. Treasury, as well as a 1973 General Counsel's Award. In 1973 he went on to private law practice. He was an authority in his field, and has written countless papers on banking law and lectured in numerous engagements. He also served as Secretary and Counsel to Walker Associates in Washington, attended the Senior Seminar in Foreign Policy at the Department of State, and was a member of the U.S. Assay Commission. He retired in 1996.

Mr. Englert is also a passionate athlete. At the Atlanta Olympics in 1966, he served as a judo technical official. Since he turned 60, Mr. Englert has been involved in running mostly five and ten kilometer senior runs, and is a winner of 38 National Championships in masters track events. He shares six world records in relay events. Mr. Englert also served on the Board of Directors of Westminster at Lake Ridge Retirement Community from 2003 to 2010. Mr. Englert is now 95 years old and recently competed in the National Senior Games in Birmingham, Alabama.

For military and financial services to the United States and his indomitable athletic spirit, Mr. Englert was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and three volumes of Who's Who in the World in 2006, 2007, and 2008. He married Helen Frances Wiggs when he returned from the war in 1948, and had two children, Lee Ann and Roy Junior.
