ANYANG, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, September 22, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Woo-Kyoung Yoo, MD, PhD has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Though doctors have many innovative ways of treating conditions of the brain and nervous system, there is still much for Dr. Yoo to discover as a neuroscientist, professor, and practicing physician with Hallym University Medical Center and Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital. He works in the field of neurorehabiliation, the branch of medicine associated with recovery in motor, language, and cognitive function following a traumatic injury or stroke. Dr. Yoo uses sophisticated tools such as multimodal imaging to assist in functional recovery, and has found continuing success due to his passion to obtain the best clinical outcome for his patients.

Dr. Yoo entered health care and medicine by matriculating with the medical college at Yonsei University from 1986 to 1992, and is an integral part of the relatively new institution of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, which opened in 1999. He is part of a staff of 1500, and one of 375 full-time physicians at the state-of-the-art hospital. The facility is well suited for Dr. Yoo's research, and is equipped with multidisciplinary tools from diagnosis technologies to advanced data storage systems. In 2009, Sacred Heart was declared a specialized medical center for severe trauma patients by the Ministry for Health, Welfare, and Family Affairs.

In Dr. Yoo's field, the primary aim is to assist patients in rediscovering their lost neurological functions after a cranial or spinal event. Often, this requires tedious therapy and continuous monitoring, which makes Dr. Yoo's passion for discovery important in transmitting solutions to frustrated patients. Using multimodal imaging, Dr. Yoo is able to look at a patient's discovery in more than one scientific process, which assists in designing a customized recovery. His latest work concerns the application of tensor imaging to cervical compressive myelopathy, and he has studied conditions such as myotonic dystrophy, delirium incurred during rehabilitation, and Parkinson's disease. In 2016, he published articles on using transcranial direct current stimulation to help patients suffering from addiction.

Dr. Yoo is the recipient of a 2017 Hyangan Academic Award from the Korean Society of Spine Surgery for his work in understanding the rehabilitation of neurologically impaired patients. He continues to assist patients every day.
