For 18 years prior, she had been an assistant at the university. Located in Kobe City, Japan, the university was originally founded in 1930 as Kobe Women's School of Pharmacy before evolving into Kobe Women's Technical School of Pharmacy in 1932. Over the course of her career, Dr. Yasuoka made several discoveries, including an atmospheric radon level increase prior to the January 17, 1995 Kobe earthquake, and conducted analysis of variation in atmospheric radon concentration prior to the earthquake using an exhaust monitor. She conducted research on radon concentration of outdoor air, measured by an ionization chamber for radioisotope monitoring system at the radioisotope institute. She also presented findings of exhausting radon by the ground strain, for which she received the 2008 Kariyush Prize for an excellent oral presentation at the 42nd annual meeting of the Japan Health Physics Society.
