Born on September 4, 1929 in Houston, Texas, Dr. Delco is a retired biology professor whose contributions have greatly shaped his field. His achievements include the discovery of the vocalization in a species of fish, as well as the discovery of a new species of freshwater fish parasite.
Dr. Delco's career began as a student at Fisk University, where he graduated with a BA in 1949. He continued his studies at the University of Michigan, receiving a MS in 1950. Dr. Delco then attended the University of Texas and obtained a PhD in 1962. Following his graduation, from 1963 to 1968, he began as an associate professor of Huston-Tillotson University in Austin. In 1967, Dr. Delco became the vice president of academy affairs there, and went on to become the vice president of academy affairs at Austin Community College, where he worked from 1985 to 1993. In 1986, Dr. Delco earned a LLD with honors from Huston-Tillotson. From 1995 to 1993, he was the special assistant to the president of the University of Texas. During 2001, Dr. Delco worked as an adjunct professor of the University of Texas.
As an esteemed biologist and educator, Dr. Delco was a board director of the Salvation Army in 1989, Austin Symphony Society in 1990, and Travis County MHMR Center in 1992. He is a fellow of the Texas Academy of Science and American Association for the Advancement of Science, as well as Kiwanis. Dr. Delco was the president of Kiwanis from 1984 to 1986. He also has contributed chapters for the book, "Rekindling Minority Enrollment," in 1991.
Dr. Delco has appeared in various Marquis Who's Who publications, including the 57th, 58th, and 63rd editions of Who's Who in America. He also has been featured in the 7th and 8th editions of Who's Who in American Education and the 5th, 6th, and 7th editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
