Elaine Johnson Copeland Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    ROCK HILL, SC, October 30, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Elaine Johnson Copeland with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Copeland celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Since 2001, Dr. Copeland has served as the president of Clinton Junior College. Dr. Copeland was certified by the Harvard Institute of Educational Management in 2002, and has been previously licensed as a professional counselor.

In 1964, Dr. Copeland graduated from Livingstone College with a BS. Following her graduation, she became a science teacher for the Florence School District from 1964 to 1965. Between 1966 and 1970, she was a biology teacher in the York School District. Dr. Copeland continued her studies at Winthrop University, receiving a MAT in 1971. During this period, she worked as a psychological counselor and instructor at Oregon State University until 1974.

In 1974, Dr. Copeland obtained a PhD from Oregon State University. After earning her PhD, she served as the associate dean and associate vice chancellor for academy affairs at the University of Illinois from 1974 to 1998. Dr. Copeland then studied at the University of Illinois, receiving an MBA in 1987. Between 2000 and 2001, she was promoted to the position of vice president of academy affairs at Dean and Livingstone Colleges.

As an esteemed educator, Dr. Copeland is a member of various related organizations, including the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Phi Kappa Phi, and Rock Hill South Carolina Rotary Club. From 1980 to 1982, Dr. Copeland was the president of the YMCA in Champaign, Illinois. She also was the president of the Girls Club Board between 1982 and 1984, as well as for the National Association of Women in Education between 1988 and 1989.

Dr. Copeland was the recipient of the Youth Motivation Task Force award from the National Alliance Business from 1981 to 1982. She obtained the Outstanding Black Faculty award from the Black Graduate Student Association in 1981 and 1989. In 1986, Dr. Copeland received the National Association of Equal Opportunity in Higher Education's Distinguished Alumni award. The Committee of Institutional Cooperation also awarded her the service award in 1999.

Dr. Copeland was given the Recipient Citizen of Year Award in 2004. Dr. Copeland has appeared in various Marquis Who's Who publications, including the 7th edition of Who's Who in American Education, and the 23rd and 25th editions of Who's Who of American Women.

The daughter of Aaron Jasper and Lucille Hawkins Johnson, Dr. Copeland was born on March 1, 1943 in Catawba, South Carolina. On September 26, 1964, she married Robert McDaniel Copeland. Together, the couple has raised a son, Robert Junior.
