Recently celebrating 20 years as a professor in the division of nursing at Hallym University, Dr. Jang's accomplishments have earned her the opportunity to not only serve as an inspiring teacher and mentor, but have also enabled her to be present on various committees. Serving as chairman of the division of nursing since 2009, Dr. Jang has been active as a consultant for a regional health care plan for the Chuncheon Public Health Center since 2008, as well as a member of the televiewer committee for the Korean Broadcasting Systems since 2007. Furthermore, Dr. Jang has served as chair of the planning committee and vice president for Gangwon Nurses Association since 2006.
Following her completion of a Bachelor of Nursing at Ewha Woman's University, Dr. Jang received her certification by the RN Ministry of Health and Welfare in 1985. She immediately began working as a nurse at the Ewha Woman's University Hospital as well as a Health Teacher at Seong Sin Middle School from 1985 to 1988. She later spent time as a lecturer at both Choonhae Junior College of Nursing and at the Ewha Woman's University in the college of nursing science, during which time she completed a Master of Science in Nursing and PhD. In 1997, she began a very successful career at Hallym University, and has since completed postdoctoral studies in the school of nursing at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville in the U.S.
Dr. Jang's research work has led her to serve as a principal investigator on six different projects, including "Korea Nurses' Health Study," which began in February 2014 and will continue through 2018. She has published many articles in professional journals throughout her career as well, including in the International Journal of Bio-Science and Bio-Technology, Cancer Research, and Applied Nursing Research. She continues to serve as an article reviewer for the Journal of Korean Society of Nursing Science since 2009, and is an active member of the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association International, the Korean Academy of Nursing, The Korean Society of Medical Informatics, the Korean Nurses Association and International Council of Nurses, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
The recipient of several research grants by the Korea Research Foundation in 2001 and 2006, the Korean Nurses Association in 2008, and the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology in 2008, Dr. Jang has been named to the Top 100 Health Professionals and Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century by the International Biographical Center and to Who's Who in Asia in 2012 and five editions of Who's Who in the world since 2010. Married to Hoon Yang since 1988, with whom she has had two children, she loves spending time with her family and has a great appreciation of fine arts.
