James B. Edwards, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

An emeritus professor and former William W. Bruner distinguished faculty fellow in the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, Dr. Edwards first served the academic institution's faculty in 1971 as an assistant professor. He previously taught as an instructor at David Lipscomb College, the University of Tennessee, and the University of Georgia between 1963 and 1971. His area of expertise, which lies primarily in accounting, stems from his extensive education and background in the field. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Management Accountant, Chartered Global Management Accountant, Certified Cost Analyst and Certified Computer Professional.

A controller for Better Maid Dairy Products, Inc. from 1958 to 1962, Dr. Edwards then served as a staff accountant for Max M. Cuba & Company, managing partner for Wilson, Edwards and Swang Accountants, partner of Q.F. Lester & Company, and vice president and chairman of the board of directors for General Data Services, Inc., until 1971 when he entered academia. He also spent a few years as an internal consultant for J.W. Hunt and Company CPAs and as vice president of Integrated Cost Management Systems Inc., in addition to teaching full-time.

During his career, Dr. Edwards spent a lot of time contributing articles to professional journals on the subject of management accounting. He was also an editor for several annual publications that were released through Warren, Gorham & Lamont Inc., including "Emerging Practices in Cost Management", "Activity-Based Management", and "Handbook of Cost Management for Services Industries." He served several years as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Corporate Accounting and Finance. He was recognized eight times with national awards for his accounting literature. He has also spent time on various professional organizations, including the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of CPAs, and the Institute of Internal Auditors. He is also the author of "The Final Word," in which he shares his experiences and ideas about the Christian faith, using personal anecdotes and third-party stories to illustrate how God works in the lives of the faithful.

Furthermore, Dr. Edwards has served in various roles for the Institute of Management Accountants, including as a national vice-president, as president of the Columbia chapter and as a member of the national research committee and the national education committee. Furthermore, he was known for being the founding president of the South Carolina Association of Accounting Educators.

Married to Virginia Ann Reagin since 1958 with four children (James B. Edwards II, Chad Reagin Edwards, Calli Ann Wilson, Judy Clair Turbeville), Dr. Edwards has always been involved in his community in some way. He's coached little league baseball in Columbia and he has been active on the board of directors for the Atlanta Bible Camp, Inc. He has also served on the board of directors and as president of the Georgia Christian Foundation, Inc., as well as on the board of directors, as vice president, and treasurer of the Spring Valley Education Foundation. Notably, Dr. Edwards has been cited in numerous editions of Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
