James L. Repace Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Repace with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Repace studied at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, now known as NYU Tandon, receiving a BSc in Physics in 1963 and an MSc in Physics in 1968. In 1963, he became a senior laboratory technician at the Radioisotope Laboratory of Grasslands Hospital in Westchester. In 1963 and 1964, Mr. Repace was a junior physicist at the New York City Department of Hospitals. From 1965 to 1968, he was a research associate at PCA's David Sarnoff Research Center in Princeton, NJ. From 1968 to 1979, Mr. Repace was a research physicist at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., in the Ocean Studies Division (1968-1970) and the Electronics Division (1970-1979). Mr. Repace studied at the Catholic University of America, where he continued his postgraduate education in 1971 and 1972.

Between 1979 and 1986, he served as a policy analyst for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on the staff of the Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation. From 1986 to 1992 and from 1995 to 1998, he was a senior policy analyst in the EPA's Indoor Air Division. In 1993 he served in EPA's Exposure Analysis Branch in the Office of Research and Development. Between 1994 and 1995, Mr. Repace worked on loan as a policy analyst for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor. He retired from EPA in 1998, becoming President of Repace Associates, Inc., a secondhand smoke consulting firm. His international consulting services include: lectures on passive smoking, courses on secondhand smoke science and policy, press conferences, media interviews, public hearing testimony, and litigation support in the form of expert testimony.

From 2003 to 2012, Mr. Repace was a visiting assistant clinical professor in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine at the Tufts University School of Medicine, and a consultant for Stanford University's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He will be releasing a new book in 2018, "Enemy No. 1: Waging The War on Secondhand Smoke."

As an esteemed physicist, Mr. Repace has been a member of various professional organizations, including the American Physical Society, The Air Pollution Control Association, The American Association for the Advancement of Science, The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, The American Public Health Association, The International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate, and The International Society of Exposure Science. He was an associate editor for passive smoking for the journal Tobacco Control from 2000 to 2003. He has authored or coauthored 97 articles in scientific, medical, engineering, and legal journals.

Mr. Repace was the recipient of a Graduate Assistantship Award from the RCA David Sarnoff Laboratory in 1967, as well as a Thomas Edison Fellowship from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in 1971 and 1972. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded Mr. Repace an Exceptional Performance Award in 1984. In 1989, he received the Surgeon General's Medallion from Dr. C. Everett Koop. Mr. Repace was awarded Certificates of Appreciation from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Transportation in 1990, an Impact Award from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Secretary of Labor's Excellence Award in 1994.

In 1998 he received a Certificate of Appreciation from Americans For Nonsmokers' Rights and Action on Smoking and Health, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Public Health Association, the Prince Georges' County MD Civic Federation President's Award. In 2002 the Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation respectively bestowed Mr. Repace with a Distinguished Professor Award and an Innovators Combating Substance Abuse Award. In 2003, he was the recipient of a Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Smoke Studies from the National Cancer Institute of Milan, Italy. In 2015, the International Society of Exposure Science celebrated his achievements with the Constance L. Mehlman Award "in recognition of outstanding contributions in exposure analysis research that helped shape a national or state policy."
