Mary Sorrows Hughes Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    SHREVEPORT, LA, November 16, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Mary Sorrows Hughes with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Hughes celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Since 1979, Ms. Hughes has been an art studio owner and freelance artist based in Shreveport, Louisiana. As an artist, she illustrated "Total Tales" in 1984. Her painting have been included in "Painting Color" in 1997, "Floral Inspirations" in 1998, "Splash 7: The Qualities of Light" in 2002, and "The New Creative Artist by Nita Leland" in 2006, and "Best of Watercolor" in 1995. Her watercolor, "A Walk in the Woods", is represented in the permanent collection of Southwestern Electric Power Co. Ms. Hughes was a featured artist in Watercolor Magazine, as well as the featured artist donor of Philadelphia House Auction and Fundraiser for AIDS. She appeared Country Roads Magazine in 2010.

Ms. Hughes studied at Centenary College, where she obtained a BA in Art in 1967 and a BA in Education in 1978. Following her graduation in 1967, she worked as a draftsman for the civil engineering department of Texaco until 1970. As an esteemed artist, Ms. Hughes is a member of various organizations, including Artport Airport Exhibit and Fundraiser, Medical Auxiliary Wives Club, and Habitat for Humanity. In 1986, she was a trustee and chair of the building committee for St. Luke's Methodist Church. Ms. Hughes was a board director of Child Care Services, Inc. from 1987 to 1991, as well as the organization's president in 1991. Ms. Hughes was the president of Louisiana Artists in 1994 and 1998.

As a member of Watercolor West, Ms. Hughes was the recipient of the Yarka St. Petersberg Merchandise Award in 1995, Signature Member Award in 1996, and W. Burgess Purchase Prize in 1998. Ms. Hughes was the recipient of the Gary, Field, Landry & Bradford award by Louisiana Women Artists in 1994. Between 2000 and 2003, she also was a board member of the Shreveport Art Guild for the Friends of the Meadows Museum. In 2002, Ms. Hughes was named one of the 10 Artists for Highway Haiku.

Ms. Hughes is a signature member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society, which awarded her the President Award of the international show in 2005. As a member of the Hoover Watercolor Society, she was president in 1986, as well as treasurer and publicity chair. He was a recipient of the Jurors Choice Award in 2001, the Transparent Watercolor Award in 2003, the Jurors Choice Award and Transparent Watercolor Award in 2006, the Sidney Hoover Memorial Award in 2009, and the Special Award in 2010. As a member of the Southwestern Watercolor Society, Ms. Hughes received the Signature Member Award in 1991, a Best of Show Edgar A. Whitney Award in 1992, Ansel Merchandise Award in 1999, Canson­Talons Inc. Award in 2000, and Saint Cuthbert's Mill Merchandise Award in 2009.

Ms. Hughes has appeared in various Marquis Who's Who publications, including the 52nd through 70th editions of Who's Who in America. She has been featured in the 26th edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest, as well as the 16th, 21st, and 27th through 33rd edition of Who's Who in the World. Her achievements also have been recorded in the 20th through 28th editions of Who's Who of American Women.

The daughter of Dr. Howard Earl and Martha Jane Sorrows, Ms. Hughes was born October 28, 1945 in Washington. On May 22, 1967, she married Frank Broox Hughes. Together, the couple raised their son: Broox Bradley.
