Frederick Orville Smith, II Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    FARMINGTON, ME, November 20, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Frederick Orville Smith, II with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Smith celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Mr. Smith is the president and treasurer of Fred. O. Smith Manufacturing Company, a position he has held for 46 years. Prior to becoming president, he served the company as a clerk and executive from 1960 to 1971. He is also a retired military officer, having served as a lieutenant-commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Additionally, he acted as a reserve officer at the Naval Reserve Training Center in Bangor, Maine from 1970 to 1979, and from 1960 to 1969, in Augusta, Maine. He was also an officer at the U.S. Naval Station in Adak, Alaska, from 1959 to 1960.

Mr. Smith began his career in the U.S. Navy as a deck officer and first lieutenant at the U.S. Ship The Sullivans in 1957. Outside of his career in the military and agriculture industry, Mr. Smith has served as an account manager at Old Ford Antiques and Collectibles since 2014. He was also a corporate secretary at the Sugarwood Gallery Inc. from 2007 to 2006, and simultaneously served as co-owner from 2000 to 2008.

Mr. Smith has served his community in a variety of capacities. He currently acts as the vice chairman of the Farmington Republican Committee, a position he has held since 2012, and has held many other political positions, including alternate delegate at the Republican National Convention in 1980 and 1968. He has been a member of the Maine Republican State Committee for 20 years, from 2006 to 2012, 1998 to 2002, and from 1980 to 1994. Mr. Smith was also the chairman of the Franklin County Republican Committee from 1976 to 1980, chairman of the Republican Committee in Mew Vineyard from 1972 to 1986, and chairman in Farmington from 1996 to 202, all in Maine. He was president of the New England Council of Young Republicans from 1963 to 1965, and chairman of the Maine Council of Young Republicans from 1962 to 1964. Mr. Smith also served as YR National Committeeman from 1960 to 1962, and from 1966 to 1968.
Outside of the political sphere, Mr. Smith has served his community as a member of the New Vineyard Fire Department since 1960, as a member and secretary of the Farmington Budget Committee since 2009, and as a public notary since 1978. Additionally, he acted as trustee and advisory board member to the U.S. Ship The Sullivans Association from 2009 to 2011.

Mr. Smith is also actively involved in the church. He has served the Old South Congregational Church in a variety of positions, including deacon since 2016, and trustee since 2011. An ecumenical representative since 2007, he served as a moderator from 2011 to 2012, and vice moderator from 2010 to 2011. Mr. Smith is also an active member of multiple organizations and societies, and is currently president elect and board member of the Farmington Rotary Club, where he previously served as vice president and sergeant at arms.

Mr. Smith graduated with a Master of Arts in political science from the University of Vermont in 2000, and he also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bowdoin College. He acted as the editor of "New Vineyard, Maine 1802 to 2002, Its Settlements, Its People, Its History, A New Vineyard Historical Society Document," published in 2002, and as the editor of its second edition, published in 2008. He also served UpCountry Artists in various capacities, including as president from 1998 to 2000, and as a member of the board of directors for almost 10 years.

Mr. Smith was president of Franklin County Arts and Crafts from 2006 to 2010, and previously served as the organization's vice president. He was also a member of the Downtown Farmington Business Association, Elks, Shriners, Kora Temple Shrine, and Masons--for which he received the 50 year medal. Additionally, Mr. Smith was a board member of the 8th Marine Regiment Association, and has served American Legion Post 28 since 2013 as a historian and board member. He has been a member of the board of directors of the Porter Lake Association since 2005.

Mr. Smith has received multiple awards and commendations for his contributions to his industry and community. The New Vineyard Fire Department honored him with a 50 Years Citation in 2010, and he was also honored as a Paul Harris Fellow at the Farmington Rotary Club in 1996. Additionally, he is featured in Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World.

The son of Harry Francis and Dorothy Spaulding Smith, Mr. Smith was married to the late Mabel Roxy Moore for 49 and one half years. Together, they had three children: Sarah Zeller, Jennifer Joy, and Erika Hildred. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, cabinet making and design, skiing, hiking, writing, and painting.
