Matthew Babcock Celebrates Almost a Decade of Professional Excellence in Academia

Dr. Babcock is the author of "Apache Adaptation to Hispanic Rule" published in 2016 by Cambridge University Press



    DALLAS, TX, November 23, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Matthew Babcock has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

For nearly 10 years, Dr. Babcock has lent his expertise to the field of academia, and taught at Austin College as well as Southern Methodist University before transferring his services to Stephen F. Austin State University. He served as a research associate in their Center for Regional Heritage Research. Dr. Babcock was recently given tenure in May of 2017 with a promotion from assistant professor to associate professor of history at the University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas).

A graduate of Dartmouth College, the University of New Mexico, and Southern Methodist University, Dr. Babcock holds a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Spanish and history, as well as a Master of Arts and a PhD in U.S. history, respectively. He wrote his master's thesis on Comanche raiding, trading, and diplomacy in the areas of New Mexico, Texas, Coahuila, Chihuahua, and Durango, followed by a doctoral dissertation on the conflicts for Apaches and soldiers on Mexico's frontier from 1786 to 1831. In addition to teaching, Dr. Babcock served as a program coordinator for UNT Dallas' department of social sciences, responsible for constructing schedules for other faculty members in history, political science, sociology, and psychology, as well as regular hiring, training, and arranging meetings. He was also a liaison between different bodies of the university, from students to administrators. Today, Dr. Babcock oversees those functions as program coordinator for the history and political science departments.

In order to remain active and engaged among his professional circles, Dr. Babcock is affiliated with the Texas State Historical Association, the American Society for Ethnohistory, The Western History Association, and the American Historical Association. An expert in his industry, he has authored "Apache Adaptation to Hispanic Rule" as part of the Cambridge North American Indian History Series.

Beyond his status as a respected and hard-working figure in his field, Dr. Babcock has been recognized on numerous occasions for his professional endeavors. In addition to earning the Dana and David Dornsife Fellowship through the Huntington Library, he won an Award for Research Excellence from UNT Dallas in 2017. In the coming years, Dr. Babcock intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career.
