Marquis Who's Who Recognizes Louis Filhour for Professional Excellence

Dr. Filhour celebrates more than 25 years in hospital administration

    CHATHAM CENTER, NY, November 28, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Louis Filhour has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Filhour has worked as the chief executive officer for Better Health for Northeast New York and as the Senior Vice President of Clinical Informatics for the Albany Medical Center since 2016. He has been on the faculty of the Albany Medical College since 2006, bringing with him more than 25 years of experience in hospital administration. His approach to healthcare focuses on wellness and prevention. Prior to his current roles, he was the senior vice president of Clinical Quality and Continuum of Care at the Albany Medical Center from 2005 to 2015. Before moving to New York, he was senior vice president of patient care services at the Evergreen Hospital Medical Center in Kirkland, WA from 2002 to 2005. He was also adjunct faculty at the University of Washington School of Nursing from 2002 to 2005.

Dr. Filhour got his start at Baylor University, where he obtained his BSN in Nursing. He also holds an MS in Nursing as a Cardiovascular Clinical Specialist from Boston College and a PhD in Nursing from the University of Phoenix, obtained in 2015. He is a registered nurse in New York and Washington. He has many years of hands-on experience as well, dating back to his time spent at the Santa Rosa Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, first as a staff nurse in 1976 and 1977, then as a nursing supervisor in 1977 and 1978. He then relocated to Ohio, where he served as a clinical nurse specialist and the assistant director of cardiology at the Wade Park campus of the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans' Affairs Medical Center from 1980 to 1984. From 1982 until 1986, he also served as an instructor at Cleveland State University's Department of Continuing Education, and was the assistant director of nursing for the critical care, trauma, and burn units of Cleveland's Metro General Hospital from 1984 to 1986.

In 1986, Dr. Filhour joined Meridia Hillcrest Hospital, first as the supervisor of critical care for a year, then as the director of nursing from 1987 to 1989. He then went on to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center & Mercy Children's Hospital in Toledo, OH, first as the assistant vice president of Heart Center, Trauma, and Critical Care Nursing from 1989 to 1991, a member of the faculty of its nursing school from 1992 to 1999, and as the associate vice president of nursing and patient care services from 1991 to 1995 and as Vice President for Patient Services from 1996-2000. He also served as adjunct assistant professor of nursing at the Medical College of Ohio from 1992 to 2001.

Dr. Filhour has served multiple organizations in a variety of capacities, including the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the American College of Health Care Executives, the American Organization of Nurse Executives, and the Northwest Organization of Nurse Executives. He has also been involved with Health Care Executives of Northwest Ohio, the Ohio Burn Team Society, the Ohio Citizens League, the Ohio Organization of Nurse Executives, Sigma Theta Tau, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the Ohio League for Nursing. Additionally, the Chance for Change Foundation, Mercy Home Care, the Nurse Executive Council, and the Society of Trauma Nurses have counted on his support over the years. He also acted as a member of the board of directors and then president of the Board of United Health Services.

Dr. Filhour is the author of "The lived experience of suffering of males after blunt trauma: A phenomenological study," published in the Journal of Trauma Nursing and presented at the International Conference on Wound Care, Tissue Repair & Regenerative Medicine in 2017. He is also the author of "The experience of suffering as voiced by male patients three to twelve months after hospitalization for blunt trauma," published in 2016.

Dr. Filhour always wanted to pursue a career in health care. He was inspired by his father, a paramedic, and his sister who also studied nursing. For his outstanding contributions to his industry, he was honored with a Leadership Award by United Health Services in 1999. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling, antiques, golfing, and restoring historic houses.
