Born in Brooklyn, NY, Ms. Barto spent her entire career just a bridge away in Northern New Jersey. Studying at Katharine Gibbs Business School, where she earned a certificate in 1960, Ms. Barto immediately went to work as a secretary to the dean of students at Montclair State University. She later spent time as a secretary for the Presbyterian Synod of New Jersey, Synod of the North East, in East Orange, NJ, and as an executive secretary for the Union County Republican Committee in Westfield, NJ. During the eight years Ms. Barto spent with the committee, and she learned a lot about politics and had earned the opportunity to serve as a legislative aide to State Senator James Vreeland in the late 1970s. She then spent another four years as a paralegal for Dempsey, Dempsey & Sheenan until she officially retired in 1984.

Ms. Barto has since become well-known for writing books, which she has been involved in for more than 25 years now. The author "Are They Winning" in 1999, "The Gypse Fortuneteller" in 2003, "Palm Sunday" in 2006, and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" in 2008, she has also published several books of short stories. Believing that love never dies, a theme throughout her life, Ms. Barto was married to her husband Harry W. Barto for 41 years before he passed away.

Involved in her community for many years, in the early 1970s, Ms. Barto was a county committeewoman for the Union County Republican Committee, a member of the library board for the Borough of New Providence, NJ, from 1979 to 1986, and the head of volunteers for Hunterdon Museum of Art for 10 years. She also taught CCD for Our Lady of Lourdes until 2015, and was a lecturer at the same church from 2015 to 2016. She was also the president of the Friends of the Hunterdon Museum of Art from 1996 to 1999.

One of the highlights of Ms. Barto's career in authorship involved being published in the hardcover book about drive-ins, "Fabulous '50s." She also received a Plaque of Appreciation, which was granted by the library board of the Borough of New Providence in 1986, and has been highlighted in every edition of Who's Who in America between 2000 and 2012, as well as several editions of Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women. She attributes her success to always being interested in writing, even as a young girl when she wrote for her school newspaper.
