CAMBRIDGE, MA, December 01, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Yunfang Sun has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As a postdoctoral researcher with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Sun specializes in data mining in ocean science, estuary and coastal ocean processes, and dynamics of coupled oceanic-atmospheric modeling. In addition to his own research, he teaches various topics at the school, including computational fluid dynamics, physical oceanography, and numerical methods.

Dr. Sun began his career by obtaining a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a specialty in fluid mechanics from Tianjin University in China in 2007 as well as an MS. He then traveled to the United States to earn a PhD from the University of Massachusetts, as well as a PhD in Marine and Atmospheric System Modeling and Analysis. He is affiliated with the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Society, the American Society of Civil Engineering, and the Oceanography Society.

Throughout his career, Dr. Sun has contributed as an author to numerous pieces in the field including "Impact of current-wave interaction on storm surge simulation: A case study for Hurricane Bob", "Surface circulations in Block Island Sound and adjacent coastal and shelf regions: A FVCOM-CODAR comparison" and "The bottom water exchange between the Singapore Strait and the West Johor Strait." He has been recognized many times for his professional accomplishments, earning recognition as a reviewer through Elsevier in 2016. Looking forward, he intends to expand upon his research.
