A forensic psychiatrist with expertise in military and veterans' issues, Dr. Ritchie retired from the U.S. Army in 2010, and accepted a post in 2015 as chief of mental health with Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) at the Washington, D.C. Veterans Affairs Hospital. Prior to her current role, she served as the chief clinical officer for the Department of Behavioral Health in Washington, D.C. She has been practicing medicine for more than 30 years. She is currently a clinical professor of psychiatry with the George Washington University School of Medicine, Georgetown University School of Medicine, and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

Dr. Ritchie holds a Bachelor's degree, cum laude, at Harvard University, and earned an MD at George Washington University. She was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army where she advanced to the rank of colonel. Completing an internship a residency in psychiatry at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, she also completed fellowships in forensic and disaster psychiatry. Dr. Ritchie later served in various leadership capacities, including chief of outpatient and inpatient psychiatry at Walter Reed, director of mental health policy at DoD/Health Affairs, and as psychiatry consultant to the US Army Surgeon General. An internationally recognized expert in her field, Dr. Ritchie offers a unique public health approach to the management of disaster and combat mental health issues. She has authored more than 200 publications on the topics of forensic, disaster, ethics, military, combat and operational psychiatry, and women's health issues. She has also published a numerous books, including "Women at War," "Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Related Diseases in Combat Veterans," and "Forensic and Ethical Issues in Military Behavioral Health (Textbooks of Military Medicine)."

A member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law, the American College of Forensic Examiners, the Association of Military Surgeons of the U.S., and the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Ritchie was the recipient of a 1990 Albert Glass Award for Outstanding Psychiatric Resident and a 1990 Lewis A. Mologne Award. She has been highlighted in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and has been decorated numerous times, notably with the Legion of Merit and a Global War on Terrorism Medal.
