David Marc Mirvis, MD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

A cardiologist and adjunct professor in the department of public health at the University of Tennessee and professor emeritus in the department of preventive medicine and internal medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN, Dr. Mirvis has dedicated a significant portion of his career to healthcare delivery processes, health policy, and theoretical and clinical electrocardiology. Joining the faculty in 1975, he taught, served as associate dean of the College of Medicine, and founded and directed the Center for Health Services Research on campus beginning in 2000. During his tenure, Dr. Mirvis has taught courses that have included Health Policy and Rhetoric, Public Health Leadership, and International Public Health. He is also a Senior Research Fellow in the Methodist Bonheur Center for Health Economics of the University of Memphis.

After receiving an MD at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Yeshiva University, in New York City in 1970, Dr. Mirvis subsequently trained in internal medicine and cardiology at the National Institutes of Health and the University of Tennessee. Board certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine, he was chief of cardiology at Memphis VA Medical Center during the mid-1980s, and served as chief of staff from 1987 to 1997. Additionally, he taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Arkansas's Faye Boozman College of Public Health, was a visiting scientist at the Harvard University School of Public Health, and was a research consultant in the Social Science Research Center at Mississippi State University.

An elected fellow of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology, and member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation and the Southern Society of Clinical Research, Dr. Mirvis has sat on numerous committees throughout his career, including the Department of Veteran Affairs and the Tennessee State Government. He has contributed more than 200 manuscripts and two textbooks, served on several editorial boards and as a reviewer for multiple journals, and has been the recipient of several grants and contracts from federal, state, and private agencies.

Dr. Mirvis has been included in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the South and Southwest. He has also earned several awards, including a Special Recognition for Public Service by the Tennessee General Assembly in 2005. Married since 1968 to Arlynn Shara Katz, Dr. Mirvis has three children.
