DAVIDSON, NC, December 07, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Sally Gregory McMillen, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. McMillen celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. McMillen recently retired as the Mary Reynolds Babcock professor of history at Davidson College in North Carolina, where she specialized in 19th-century history of the American South and American Women's History. She taught as an assistant, associate, and full professor from 1988 until 2016 at the college, and began chairing the History Department in 2002. She was also responsible for founding the Gender and Sexuality Studies Department, which provides students with a solid grounding in the interconnected interdisciplinary fields of gender, sexuality, and queer studies.

After the completion of her undergraduate work at Wellesley College in 1966, a Master of Library Science at Pratt Institute in 1968, and a PhD from Duke University in 1985, Dr. McMillen began her career in higher education at Middle Tennessee State University from 1985 to 1988, before working at Davidson College. The latter is the story of a remarkable activist slighted by history. Dr. McMillen has also co-edited two books, and was on the editorial board for the North Carolina Historical Review for three years.

Dr. McMillen has been cited in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who Among American Women for a total of 10 times. She has also been the recipient of a Boswell Family Fellow in 2005, a Hunter-Hamilton Love of Teaching Award in 2000, and a National Endowment of the Humanities Fellow from 1991 to 1992. She is also member of the Organization of American Historians, executive board member of the Southern Historical Association, and both president and former executive board member of the Southern Association of Women Historians.

Dr. McMillen is married, and is the proud mother of two children. She loves physical activity such as running, hiking, and biking, and enjoys reading and cooking.
