Myron D. Fottler Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Fottler, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Fottler recently retired as professor emeritus of health services administration and executive director of health services administration programs in the department of Healthcare Management and Infomatics at the College of Health and Public Affairs of the University of Central Florida. Serving in academia since 1967, his areas of teaching and research interests in strategic management of health services organizations have included human resources management and customer service in healthcare, healthcare marketing, the use of information in healthcare decision making, stakeholder management, multi-provider systems, and corporate restructuring. In regard to human resource management in health services organizations, Dr. Fottler's expertise has been included in such areas as strategic human resources management, job design and new manpower roles, and human resources planning and career development. He previously taught at State University of New York, the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and was a visiting faculty member at the University of Minnesota and visiting associate professor at the University of Iowa. At the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), he was the director of the PhD program in administration-health services from 1983 until 1999 where he mentored more than 50 doctoral students.

Throughout his career, Dr. Fottler has earned more than 20 awards for his successes, dating back to 1985 when he was named Distinguished Speaker by Duke University Medical Center. He also received a 2007 Research Incentive Award by the University of Central Florida, earned a Best Paper in Healthcare and Hospitality Management Track by the Southern Management Association in 2004 and 2006, the Edward C. Hayhow Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives for his research in 1997, and received a Faculty Publication of the Year Award by the American Academy of Medical Administrators in 2001. Many of these awards correlated with the extensive amount of time Dr. Fottler has dedicated to writing. He has authored and co-authored 27 books, including the 2017 "Handbook of Healthcare Management," a comprehensive examination of key management practices for global healthcare organizations which argues that insight into and implementation of these practices is essential for organizational success and sustainability, as well as " Fundamentals of Human Resources in Healthcare" 2018 which presents proven best practices and evidence-based strategies for managing human resources in healthcare organizations. Dr. Fottler further contributed more than 50 chapters to books, over 150 journal articles, and more than 100 book reviews to various academic and professional healthcare and management journals.

In addition to his multitude of accolades, Dr. Fottler has received more than a dozen grants, and has been named to numerous biographical publications such as Contemporary Authors and The Writer's Dictionary. He has also been highlighted in every edition of Who's Who in America since 2002, as well as numerous editions of Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World.

Dr. Fottler has served on the editorial board for Health Care Management Review, Medical Care Research and Review and the International Journal of Applied Quality Management. He also served as an ad hoc reviewer for several healthcare and management journals. He has also served as an ad hoc reviewer for the Hospital and Health Services Administration Journal of Healthcare magazine, the Journal of Labor Studies, and the American Journal of Managed Care. He has reviewed more than 100 books in various journals. Furthermore, Dr. Fottler is a long time member and leader in the Academy of Management where he served as the Program Chair and Division Chair for the Health Care Management Division, where he was awarded an Outstanding Service Award in 1999. He also was active in the Southern Management Association, where he served as associate program chair for several years and was also elected a Fellow. Finally, he served as a founding co-editor of an annual book series titled "Advances in Health Care Management" which publishes original conceptual and empirical papers on various "cutting edge" topics. He served in the capacity from 2000 to 2012.

Moreover, Dr. Fottler is a member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration, where he served as chair of the doctoral education track for many years. Also known for serving as a consultant in his field numerous times, Dr. Fottler has been responsible for conducting more than 100 presentations at professional meetings for various organizations and universities.

Dr. Fottler was married to Carol Ann Fottler from 1972 until her death in 2017. He holds a BS in Industrial Relations with a concentration in Economics at Northeastern University, an MBA in Human Resources with distinction at Boston University, and a PhD in Business with a concentration in Industrial Relations, Management, and Economic Theory from Columbia University.
