Supported by nearly 40 years of practiced industry experience, Dr. Shandera works as a faculty physician with Baylor College of Medicine, employed in 1978 as an assistant professor. Utilizing his expertise in internal medicine and infectious diseases, he was one of the first medical professionals to raise awareness of HIV. Additionally, he co-authored one of the first medical reports by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

An alumnus of Rice University and Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Shandera holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology, as well as an MD.
