Robert Edward Darling Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    WASHINGTON, DC, December 13, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Robert Edward Darling with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Darling celebrates many years experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. A longtime theater director, designer, and principal of R. Darling & Associates, Mr. Darling has been in the industry since 1960. Making quite a name for himself, he has worked with some of the most significant performing arts institutions throughout the U.S. and Canada, including the San Francisco Opera and Ballet, the NYC Opera, the Canadian Opera, the Chicago Lyric Opera, and Miami City Ballet, among many others. He has produced more than 20 new music-theater pieces, directed and designed world premieres, served as an artistic coordinator on many occasions, and served on numerous National Endowment for the Arts panels in music, theater, and opera/music theater. He has also written substantially, including both on-site reports from around the nation for the NEA and, with Richard Rodzinski "Training the Singing Actor in America" for the Ford Foundation.

A co-founder and principal director for Hidden Valley Opera Ensemble in Carmel, CA for several years, he developed and commissioned many new works such as "Hotel Eden" by Henry Mollicone. He also worked with Mr. Mollicone again, alongside Sheldon Harnick on "Coyote Tales" for the Kansas City Lyric Opera. Also known for his work as the artistic director for the Central City Opera House Association in Denver he commissioned "The Face on the Bar Room Floor," from Mr. Mollicone and as the artistic producer for Acorn Theater in Washington. Mr. Darling's designs are represented in collections in the American Design Smithsonian Museum, the Museum of the City of New York, San Francisco Opera Archives, and the Prague Quadrennial Scenographic Design. He has also contributed articles to professional journals throughout his 50-plus year career in the industry.

Active in various organizations such as the United Scenic Artists and the Logan Circle Community Association, Mr. Darling also served on the board of the Chambersburg Ballet Theater, as well as past president, board of directors, and Arboretum Chair for the Washington Daffodil Society. Furthermore, he is involved as board chairman of photography for the American Daffodil Society. In 1994, he became a founding member of Alliance for New Music Theater, and in 2003, was a founding member of International Forum of Visual Practitioners.

Mr. Darling studied at several impressive schools. After first earning a Bachelor's degree at San Francisco State University in 1959, he went on to complete a Master of Fine Art at Yale University School of Drama in 1963, then studied at Bayreuth Festspiel Meisterclasse in 1965 and later at Columbia University in 1978. Cited in Who's Who in America over 20 times since 1974 and included in several editions of both Who's Who in Entertainment, and Who's Who in the East, Mr. Darling was also honored with a Mayor's Award for Community Improvement in D.C. He later received a 1996 Watrous Silver Medal, a 2006 Quinn Silver Medal by the American Daffodil Society, and a 2017 Silver Ribbon from Washington Daffodil Society.
