Mary Weinkauf Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Professional Excellence in Religious Studies



    WOODRUFF, WI, December 14, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mary Weinkauf has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Weinkauf's career began as a student at Wisconsin State University, where she graduated with a BA in 1961. Dr. Weinkauf continued her studies at the University of Tennessee, receiving a MA in 1962 and a PhD in 1966. Following her graduation, Dr. Weinkauf became an assistant professor of English at Adrian College. In 1969, she moved to Dakota Wesleyan University, where she worked as a professor and the head of the English department. Dr. Weinkauf remained in this position until 1989 when she became a part-time instructor at Columbia College. In 1993, Dr. Weinkauf graduated from the Lutheran School of Theology (LSTC) at Chicago with an MDiv.

Throughout her career, Dr. Weinkauf has contributed many works as an author. She has published "Hard-Boiled Heretic" and "Sermons in Science Fiction" in 1994 as well as "Murder Most Poetic" in 1996. Her work always has been involved with religious studies. However, after earning her Master of Divinity at the LSTC, there was a noticeable transformation in her career path.

Dr. Weinkauf became a pastor in Gowerie, Iowa and then White Pine, Michigan. Churches she was involved with are Faith and Siloa Lutheran Church in Michigan, and Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisconsin. Dr. Weinkauf was briefly the director of the Lay School for Mission's Sayner Campus.

As an esteemed educator and pastor, Dr. Weinkauf is involved in various related organizations, including the National Council of Teachers of English, South Dakota Council of Teachers of English, Science Fiction Research Association, Popular Culture Association, and the Milton Society. Dr. Weinkauf also maintains affiliation with Sigma Tau Delta, Pi Kappa Delta, Phi Kappa Phia. She has been the vice president of a local American Association of University Women. She was the president of the South Dakota Poetry Society from 1982 to 1983 as well as of Delta Kappa Gamma international from 1983 to 1985.
