Ralph Dace Kimberlin Recognized for Achievements in Aerospace Technology

Dr. Kimberlin is recognized as one of three U.S. Air Force officers who developed the AC47 and AC130



    WINTER HAVEN, FL, December 15, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ralph Dace Kimberlin, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. A highly regarded test pilot with more than 40 years of experience in aerospace engineering, Dr. Kimberlin has worked as a professor with the Florida Institute of Technology since 2006, and as a test pilot since 1970. Prior to that, he served as a professor and chairman of the University of Tennessee Space Institute from 1978 to 2005, and as a chief of flight test and aerodynamics at Piper Aircraft from 1974 to 1978. Throughout his career as a professor, 10 of his students have gone on to become astronauts.

Dr. Kimberlin began his career serving at the U.S. Naval Academy, earning a BS in 1963. He went on to earn an MS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Tennessee Space Institute in 1975, and a PhD in the same from the Technical University of Aachen, Germany in 1991. He is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the SAE, and the Experimental Aircraft Association. He is also an elected fellow of the Society for Experimental Test Pilots.

An established voice in the aerospace community, Dr. Kimberlin was one of three U.S. Air Force officers who were responsible for developing the AC47 and AC130. In addition, he is credited as the author of "Flight Testing of Fixed Wing Aircraft," which he plans to update as the industry continues to evolve. He is known for his ability to stay calm under pressure. While working as a test pilot at Rocket International, he jumped out of his first plane when it came apart during a flight test.
