Gregory Just Wismar Recognized for Dedication to the Lutheran Church

Mr. Wismar takes great pride in using words and music to enrich the devotional lives of many people



    SOUTHBURY, CT, December 20, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gregory Just Wismar has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 40 years of experience, Dr. Wismar is a widely regarded minister, writer, columnist, and preacher. Since 2011, he has been emeritus pastor for Christ the King Lutheran Church in Newtown, CT, having been a pastor there since 1987. He has also been involved with the Connecticut Master Chorale since 2007. Prior to that, he served as a pastor with Messiah Lutheran Church in Lynnfield, MA from 1983 to 1987, with Redeemer Lutheran Church in Gorham, ME from 1978, and with St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Naugatuck, CT from 1972 to 1978. He previously worked as an assistant pastor with Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury, CT in 1971 and 1972.

Currently he is a feature writer of travel and restaurants with the Heritage Villager, a writer with Concordia Publishing house, a tour host with GLOBUS Travel International, and a supply pastor with Congregations Connecticut and Congregations New York. He is a former vice president of the New England Lutheran Historical Society and has been an archivist with the New England District for nearly 30 years.

Dr. Wismar was initially inspired to pursue a career in the Lutheran clergy due to the ongoing influence and support of his family members, whom he considered great role models. He began his career at Concordia College in Bronxville, NY, obtaining an AA in 1965, before going on to Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, IN to get a BA in 1967. He then earned a Master of Divinity at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO in 1971, an MS in Education from Southern Connecticut State University in 1977, and a Doctor of Ministry from Hartford Seminary in 1990. In 1991, he completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music.

Dr. Wismar is best known for writing and editing articles, and helping out congregations in situations of need, as well as hosting tours to different corners of the world. However, he takes the greatest pride in helping to enrich others' lives by writing hymns, prayers, and liturgical materials. Most recently, he was credited as an essayist in the "Handbook to Lutheran Service Book," which is due to be published in 2018. His additional authored works include "At Every Turn," "God Is For Us" and "For All the Saints."

In recognition of his lifelong commitment to theological study and practice, Mr. Wismar has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Religion, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World. Outside of his career as a minister, he is celebrated as a man of many talents. Most recently, he was named Singles Champion in the Heritage Village Tennis Open in 2012, and he was previously selected as the recipient of a Photography Award from Kodak International in 1988.
