Karla Clark Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Professional Excellence in Aerospace Engineering

Karla Clark has contributed more than 30 years of hard work and research to NASA and space exploration.



    BENNINGTON, NE, December 22, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Karla Clark has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Clark was an Assistant Director of the Office of Safety and Mission Success at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)/NASA, a position she has held since 2015. She has also served as a capture lead for the Enceladus Life Finder Discovery and New Frontiers Proposals since 2014. Having been with JPL/NASA for more than 30 years, she has held various roles with a number of projects, including as the Mission Assurance Office Manager from 2010 until 2015, the Europa Mission Studies Manager from 2005 until 2010, and as the spacecraft manager for the Prometheus Project from 2003 until 2005.

Ms. Clark began her career as a student of Rice University. In 1983, she graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering before continuing her studies at University of Southern California, receiving an MS in Mechanical Engineering in 1986 and an MS in Engineering Management in 1988. She began working with JPL/NASA in 1987 and was an engineer for the Cassini power subsystem, a position she held until 1997. From 1991 until 1996, she also served as an assistant power subsystem Technical Manager and subsequently the power subsystem Technical Manager in 1996 and 1997 for the same project. In 1997 she was selected as the program engineer for the Outer Planets/Solar Probe Project and the Europa Orbiter's flight system manager in 1999 until the project's cancellation 3 years later.

As an esteemed aerospace engineer, Ms. Clark is a member of various related organizations, including the Advanced Stirling Radioisotope Generator Review Board, the Aerospace Flight Battery Systems Steering Committee, and the Hubble Space Telescope Battery Review Subcommittee. In 1997, she became an honoree of the European Space Agency for her contributions to the Cassini-Huygens mission. In both 1993 and 1998, she was the recipient of several NASA Group Achievement Awards and NASA honored her Cassini effort with the Exceptional Achievement Award in 1999. She received the Team Award from the JPL in 2005 for her Prometheus effort. She was inducted into the Finneytown High School Hall of Fame in 2003. In 2014, she received NASA's Outstanding Leadership Medal for her leadership of JPL's Mission Assurance Office, as well as the Magellan Award from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, receiving a second Magellan Award this year for her recent proposal efforts.
