"As an actor, I am realizing the importance of leaving a little bit of myself in each character...There is not going to be another career for me. I trust the process." - Patrick Hickman
LOS ANGELES, CA, January 05, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- From Ribbons to Runners, Patrick Hickman has been busy picking up starring roles. Born and raised in a blue-collar neighborhood outside of Philadelphia, the expected career aspirations - NBA dreams aside - included trade school. Even though he was that kid who would watch a TV show or movie for hours until every line was memorized, he decided to play it safe and become an electrician. He recounts, "I couldn't stay awake in (electrician) class. And after having my heart broken by a serious girlfriend, I decided to enroll in acting classes." After getting commercials, films and theater under his belt he moved to Los Angeles. The rest is history or rather history in the making.
His gentle, soulful brown eyes place him squarely in the dramatic category. "I'm not sure why I don't book comedies," he laughs. Two years after moving to Los Angeles he booked his first SAG project, a leading role in Ribbons an emotionally charged thriller. Vincent (Hickman) a stoic injured veteran has a bleak outlook until a chance meeting with a mystery woman at the local bar gives birth to a new purpose. "This film is a perfect mix of romance, action and suspense. Ultimately the story shows that no matter what horrible things have happened to us, if we just fight our way out something great can happen," he states. The acclaimed independent film stars Hickman and Brian Krause (Charmed) and is being released on DVD in early 2018. The film enjoyed a limited theatrical run and toured the festival circuit. Ribbons is currently available for purchase and streaming on iTunes, Amazon and Vudu.
A high school athlete, Hickman shied away from trying out for plays. The actor has since expanded his repertoire to include writing and directing. A story he co-wrote with his roommate was adapted as the Sci-Fi series pilot, Runners, which he also stars in. Leading men who inspire him include fellow Philly native Will Smith, Ryan Gosling, Sam Rockwell and more. He sums up his journey, "As an actor, I am realizing the importance of leaving a little bit of myself in each character. When it comes to directing I aspire to be an actor's director. There is not going to be another career for me. I trust the process." You can follow him on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/patrickhickman4/
