A veteran of the banking industry, Ms. Cottrell accrued nearly six decades of experience before retiring in 2013. Her journey started in 1955, when she became a systems service representative for IBM. Three years later, Ms. Cottrell was promoted to customer education instructor of the technology powerhouse, and she only continued rising from there. Over the years, Ms. Cottrell served as an assistant treasurer, assistant vice president, vice president, and head of corporate services for the Union Trust Company, vice president of corporate financial services and senior vice president of cash management services for Citytrust, and vice president of cash management for the Connecticut region of JPMorgan Chase & Co. She also worked as the vice president of cash management of Centerbank, the vice president of corporate services at Lafayette American Bank, and the senior vice president of corporate services at Union Savings Bank. She also served as President of the Fairfield County Bankers Association and chaired the Washington D.C.-based Funds Transfer Association.
Ms. Cottrell prepared for her endeavors by earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Washington in 1955. She was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society and Beta Gamma Sigma Business Administration Honorary.
Now in retirement, Ms. Cottrell is focusing her time on giving back to her community. She has been a volunteer with PAWS and a member of the Tree Advisory Committee for the city of Norwalk since 2017, and the treasurer of the board of directors of the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum since 2015. She has also been a member of the board of directors of the Family and Children's Agency since 1982. Prior civic positions include trustee of the Norwalk Seaport Association, Inc., president and member of the board of directors of the Danbury Visiting Nurses of Western Connecticut Home Care, chairman of the Stamford Rehabilitation Center and Gaylord Specialty Healthcare, and member of the board of directors of the Danbury Cemetery Association. Her accomplishments have been highlighted in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
