With more than 50 years of legal experience, most recently Mr. Holme has served as Senior of Counsel for Davis Graham & Stubbs, LLP, since 2011. Prior to this position, he held multiple positions at this esteemed Denver law firm, including partner from 1973 to 2011, (and managing partner at the District of Columbia Office from 1987 to 1991), and associate from 1966 to 1968 and 1972. Additionally, because of his desire to obtain substantial trial experience, Mr. Holme served as deputy district attorney for the Denver District Attorney's office from 1969 to 1971.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Holme graduated from Williams College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963. He completed his studies three years later, graduating from the University of Colorado with a Doctor of Jurisprudence and as a member of the Order of the Coif. While in law school, he served as Managing Editor of the University of Colorado Law Review.
He has been licensed to practice by the Colorado Supreme Court since 1966, and has been admitted to practice by the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. Mr. Holme has additionally been admitted to practice in the United States Courts of Appeals for the First Circuit, Fourth Circuit, Federal Circuit and District of Columbia Circuit and in the United States District Courts for the District of Columbia and the United States Court of Federal Claims.
Beyond his active trial practice, Mr. Holme has contributed to numerous endeavors within his professional circles. From 1979 to 1985, he was appointed to serve on the Grievance Committee of the Colorado Supreme Court. Additionally, he has served on the Civil Rules Committee since 1994 and the Civil Justice Committee since 1999. He also was appointed as a member of the 15 person Supreme Court Nominating Commission from 2008 to 2013. This Commission is responsible for interviewing and screening candidates to be appointed to the Colorado Supreme Court and the Colorado Court of Appeals. For each vacancy, the Commission ultimately submits its top three candidates to the Governor who must select the new appellate judge from that list. During his six year term, Mr. Holme participated in nominating judges to fill three Supreme Court vacancies and 11 Court of Appeals vacancies.
Since 1994, Mr. Holme has educated Colorado trial lawyers and judges about numerous new provisions regarding handling of civil lawsuits by presenting several continuing legal education seminars and by publishing more than a dozen lengthy articles in The Colorado Lawyer, the primary monthly publication of the Colorado Bar Association.
In addition to his primary legal practice, Mr. Holme remains affiliated with various legal and trial related organizations. He was elected to serve on and was an active leader of the Board of Governors of the Colorado Bar Association from 1974 to 1976, 1985 to 1987, 1995 to 1999, and 2001 to 2003. He has served in multiple posts for the Denver Bar Association as well, such as a trustee from 1977 to 1980, and vice president from 1997 to 1998. Moreover, Mr. Holme has kept an active membership with the American Bar Association and the Colorado and American Bar Foundations.
As a result of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Holme has accrued numerous accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. He was selected as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1983 and has served on several of its committees, including serving as Colorado State Chair and recently as the Chair of it Judiciary Committee.. He has also been selected for inclusion in many editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who in the World.
