Pyungwoo Yeon Celebrated for Excellence in Engineering

Mr. Yeon won the Outstanding RFIC Student Designer Award from Intel-GT



    ATLANTA, GA, January 31, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Pyungwoo Yeon has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An expert in the field of biomedical system design and wireless power transfer, Mr. Yeon is currently pursuing a PhD at the Georgia Institute of Technology, researching distributed free-floating wireless implantable neural recording system design. Prior to joining the school, he worked at the Samsung LSI Division, and with LG Electronics. While with Samsung Electronics, he developed a prototype for a highly efficient wireless charger integrated circuit toward A4WP standard that enables robust wireless charging of multiple mobile devices even in the presence of misalignment and larger separation distance.

In addition to his current doctoral studies, Mr. Yeon holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Seoul National University, and a Master of Science in engineering from The University of Tokyo. A member of the IEEE, he has been recognized many times for his outstanding work. In addition to winning the Outstanding RFIC Student Designer Award from Intel-GT, he earned the Silver Award at the 11th Samsung Electro-Mechanics Best Paper Awards along with other scholars in the industry for their paper titled "A Multi-Cycle Q-Modulation Technique for Wirelessly-Powered Biomedical Implants." He also won the 3rd Best Paper Award in 2017 IEEE Biomed. Circuits Syst. Conf., "Millimeter-scale integrated and wirewound coils for powering implantable neural microsystems," P. Feng, P. Yeon, T. G. Constandinou, and M. Ghovanloo (co-1st authors).

Other awards he has won include: Jasso (Japan Student Services Organization) scholarship for academic excellence (Apr. 2011 - Mar. 2012), Scholarship from JENESYS (Japan-East Asia Network for Exchange for Students and Youths) (2009), 1st prize, Electronics exhibition at Seoul National University (Nov. 2009), Two Army Achievement Medals, Army Recommendation Medal from 8th U.S. Army (Nov. 2005 - Sep. 2007), National science & technology scholarship (Mar. 2003 - Dec. 2004), 4th prize, National robot olympiads (Aug. 2000, Aug. 2001), 3rd prize, Preliminary round of the national physics competition (Apr. 2002), 3rd prize, Preliminary round of the national Japanese speech competition (Mar. 2001), and a scholarship from Ulsan Sungshin High School (Mar. 2000 - Feb. 2003)

In the coming years, Mr. Yeon intends to complete his PhD at Georgia Tech and experience the continued success of his research.
