He currently serves as a professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University, a position he has held for more than two decades. He has also served as the director of the University-Industry Center at Seoul National University since 2002. From 2013 to 2017, he served the Ministry of Trade Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea as president and national chief technology officer at the Office of Strategic Research and Development Planning. He also acted as the founder and chief executive officer of SNU Precision Company from 1998 to 2017. Dr. Pahk also applies his expertise in the field as the chairman of the Korean Association for Industrial Technology Security, chairman of the board of the Youth Hope Foundation, and as a senior member of the National Academy of Engineering. He began his career as an assistant professor at Pohang University of Science and Technology in 1991, serving the institute for two years.
Dr. Pahk received a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Manchester. He also graduated from Seoul National University with a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in mechanical design and production engineering. has also authored more than 200 technical papers presented at conference proceedings or published in international and domestic journals. In addition, he also holds more than 80 patents in his field.
Dr. Pahk has been honored with a number of awards and commendations throughout his professional career. He was the recipient of the presidential decoration for Technology Innovation in 2004, the IR52 Jang Young Sil Award in 2004 and 2013, the Grand Award for 100 Innovations in Korea by the National Academy of Engineering in 2010, the Kwanak Grand Prix Award by the Alumni Association of Seoul National University in 2005, and the 70 Million Dollar Export Award by Korea in 2015. He received an Award of Excellence on five separate occasions from the Ministry of Knowledge and Economy of Korea. He was also recognized as Global CEO by Forbes Korea in 2014, and as a role model in science and engineering by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2006. In addition, Dr. Pahk was also honored as a fellow of the Korea Society of Mechanical Engineering and the Korea Society for Procession Engineering.
