Dr. Valerie Carson Bryan Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

An accomplished listee, Dr. Bryan celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Professor and Charles Stewart Mott Eminent Scholar in the Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology, and Chair of Adult and Community Education at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Dr. Bryan has been employed at FAU for over 30 years. She teaches courses in adult learning, executive leadership, aging, and integration of technology, has chaired more than 100 dissertations and has acquired over $2 million in grant money. Her research areas have focused on virtual learning communities of practice where she has received awards; successful aging, and global workplace learning. She is expanding her work into sustainable practices.

Over the past 30 years, she served as president of the Faculty Assembly for the College of Education at FAU, chaired the Forest and Recreation Resources Advisory Committee for Clemson University, and has co-chaired the Governor's Outdoor Events for the Department of Transportation for the State of North Carolina.

Dr. Bryan's journey has led to her authoring five (5) books, 37 chapters, more than 44 international, national, and state referred journals, more than 120 international, national, and state refereed conference presentations, and approximately 200 non-refereed conference presentations. She has also been an active member with the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education, American Educational Research Association, and in the recent past, the National Recreation and Park Association. She was inducted in 2016 to Worldwide Publishing's Prestigious Roster of Top Female Executives.

Completing her undergraduate work at Clemson University in 1970, Master's in Education at The Citadel in 1973, and Doctorate of Education at FAU in 1991, Dr. Bryan previously taught at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the University of West Florida and the University Center for Educational Improvement at the University of Georgia during the 1970s. She also taught at the high school level and coached at the John C. Calhoun Academy, Colleton County High School, and Ruffin High School in South Carolina.

Honored many times over for her achievements, Dr. Bryan was recently named to Elite Women Worldwide for 2016, was also named to Legacymakers: 100 Women of Distinction by FAU in 2016, and was inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame by Adult and Community Education Worldwide in 2015. She has also received countless other awards, including an Educational Leadership's Distinguished Teacher of the Year award in 2009, a Best Education Practices award by the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce in 1998, and numerous certificates of appreciation.
