An accomplished listee, Mr. Schroeder celebrates many years of experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. With nearly 50 years of professional experience in the field, Mr. Schroeder has served as the director of the University of Illinois at Springfield Professional and Continued Education Center Online Leadership and Strategy, Director of the National Council for Online Education, and the associate vice chancellor of online learning since 2009. Prior to obtaining these roles, he served as the director of the office of technology enhanced learning with the school from 1997 to 2012, and the director of the center for online learning, research, and service from 2009 to 2012. In addition, he has been recognized as professor emeritus of communications since 2001, having served as a professor from 1995 to 2001. Early in his career, he worked as an instructor in radio and TV from 1975 to 1977.

Between positions at the University of Illinois, Mr. Schroeder served in a variety of roles with Sangamon State University, including as director of the TV Office from 1984 to 1997. In addition, he served as a faculty associate to the vice president for academic affairs from 1997 to 2004, and as an associate and assistant professor of communications from 1977 to 1995. Earlier in his career, he worked as a news reporter with WILL AM/FM from 1971 to 1974, a general manager of WVIK in 1970, and as a reporter for WOWO in 1969. Mr. Schroeder began his career as a student at Augustana College, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in speech in 1970, going on to earn a Master of Science in radio and TV in 1972.

A respected voice in the industry, Mr. Schroeder has been recognized for his contributions throughout his career. He was named to the United States Distance Learning Association Hall of Fame and received the Mildred B. and Charles A. Wedemeyer Award from the University of Wisconsin and American Journal of Distance Education in 2016. In 2011, he received a Distinguished Service Award from the University of Illinois, and the Sloan Consortium (now the Online Learning Consortium) recognized him as a fellow and a Frank Mayadas Leadership Award recipient in 2010, as well as the Most Outstanding Achievement in Online Learning by an Individual Award in 2002. The National Federation of Local Cable Programmers recognized him with a Finalist Award in 1987, 1988, and 1993, and the Illinois State Board of Education awarded him a grant in 1994. However, Mr. Schroeder is most proud of his role in education in giving online access to others and helping them to pursue meaningful careers.
