About Carolyn Francine Filipp Beseda
As a long-standing, skilled member of the musical field, Ms. Carolyn Beseda is a retired public school choral/band director for forty years having taught in the following independent school districts: Fort Bend, Houston and Aldine. She has found success in the fields of entertainment and insurance as well.

An Early preparation for a career in the performing arts was instilled by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.F. (Klozik) Filipp. Her father was a fabricator/tinsmith in his sheet metal business and her mother served as the bookkeeper, as well as being a homemaker and costume designer/seamstress. Ms. Beseda focused her early years on school work and rehearsing tap, ballet and jazz, as well as playing the piano, clarinet and saxophone. Memberships were held in the following organizations: Mildred's School of Dance, Houston Youth Symphony, Houston All-City Symphonic Band, Houston All-City Orchestra, All-Region Band, SPJST Concert Band and all musical organizations of John H. Reagan Sr. High School. Leadership positions held were: clarinetist/student conductor/concert mistress of the concert band, first female assistant drum major of the marching band, pianist of the stage band, as well as chorister/accompanist of the mixed chorus. Numerous Class-1 medals were earned for superior solo and ensemble work during this time also. Additional affiliations included the National Honor Society, Future Teachers of America and the French Club. Ultimately, three music scholarships and one dance scholarship were awarded to this talented young woman. Already a professional musician in her early teens, she played lead saxophone and clarinet in the Lad Pavelka and Space City Dutchmen bands. At age fifteen, Ms. Beseda managed her own private piano studio, as well as served as pianist and assistant choral director of the Houston Brethen Church. Serving as a camp counselor at the Hus School Encampment was part of her summer activities, along with enjoying sports of swimming, bowling and tennis.

At the college level, Ms. Beseda was a contra-bass clarinet and B-flat clarinetist of the University of Houston Wind Ensemble & Concert Band, respectively. In the University of Houston Marching band, Ms. Beseda held the following consecutive positions: leader, flag-holder, Cougar Doll of dance team, and bandsman. Service memberships were held in Tau Beta Sigma National Band Fraternity and Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority. Teaching in her music studio, playing for church and professionally in bands were activities implemented, along with her regular studies at the University of Houston.

Upon earning the Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Houston, Ms. Beseda realized her childhood goal of becoming a junior high band director, along with other responsibilities of teaching all the woodwinds in grades six through twelve. Night classes were implemented and a Master of Education degree was earned from Stephen F. Austin University. Ms. Beseda played professionally in the Drabek Czech Band and Kovanda Band for tern consecutive years. In the vocal realm, she performed as a soprano in the Houston Symphony Chorus, a particularly rewarding musical experience.

Ms. Beseda has realized her business acumen in the insurance industry. As a Fraternal Insurance Counsellor (FIC) she has represented three companies: Western Fraternal Life Association, RVOS, and SPJST, the latter company for over thirty years. As a fraternalist in these companies, as well as insurance agent, Ms. Beseda has held many positions of leadership. She has served as part President and Vice-President of SPJST District V, Past Vice-President, Chaplin and Fraternal Activities Counselor of SPJST Lodge 88 and served on the SPJST Lodge 88 Board of Trustees for two tenures of service. Fraternally, she also holds active memberships in the Houston Liederkranz and Hermann Sons Fraternal Life Insurance.

As an adult, professional and civic memberships have been salient to Ms. Beseda. Memberships have been held in the following organizations, both past and present: Texas Music Educators' Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, American Choral Directors' Association, College Women's Club, Houston Symphony Chorus, Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Educators' Organization, Houston Tuesday Musical Club, and Houston Area Retired Teachers' Association. Most recently, Ms. Beseda, a Republican life member, has been honored to serve on the Republican National Committee Presidential Advisory Board and selected to represent Texas as a member of The President's Club.

Regarding her contributions to her church, the Unity of the Brethen, Ms. Beseda has served two terms on the Hus School Board of Trustees, as a past counselor of the camp and presently serves on the Primetimers camp staff. President of the Westheimer Christian Sisters' Society, Ms. Beseda directs this local chapter of this women's organization, as well.

Presently, Ms. Carolyn Beseda is a private teacher in her studio of clarinet, piano and saxophone, as well as teaching on the staff at St. Mark Lutheran School Music Conservatory. She directs the Czech Chorus of SPJST Lodge 88 and performs in the SPJST Lodge Concert Band, where she holds the position of assistant band director. Professionally, Ms. Beseda is the lead saxophonist/clarinetist and vocalist with the Jazz Medics Big Band and periodically performs with the Slavic Heritage Band and CBS Trio. As a free lance soloist, she performs as a pianist/vocalist at Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services and at other Houston-area assisted-living facilities. Dedicated to her Alpha Delta Kappa, she performs with the instrumental ensemble for international conventions of this renown educators' association. Most significant is her priority to play for Sunday services as pianist for her church.

In addition to her status as Lifetime Achiever, Ms. Beseda has been a featured listee in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who of American Women, and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
