About Imogene Klutts Chambers
A true daughter of the state of Oklahoma, and a respected and long-standing figure in her field, Imogene Klutts Chambers has dedicated her life to the well-being of students and advancing the financial administration framework within the constructs of local education.

Born in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma, in 1928, to parents Odes and Lillie Southard Klutts -- upstanding citizens whom she dedicates every single one of her achievements -- Dr. Chambers spent nearly a half-century in the education sector, impacting students in the classroom and behind the scenes. Though she was very young during the dark period in American history when drought and erosion caused by the Dust Bowl, along with the struggles experienced due to the Great Depression, destroyed many farms and left thousands of Oklahomans unemployed, Dr. Chambers grew to become a product of her community. As the only surviving member of her graduating class, she has persevered through every challenge she confronted.

Dr. Chambers attended East Central University, earning a bachelor's degree in 1948. Immediately after completing her undergraduate coursework, she began to pay it forward by accepting a job as a mathematics teacher at Marlow Public Schools. She subsequently married her husband, Richard Lee Chambers, in May of 1949, and soon joined the faculty at Bartlesville Public Schools, remaining with the school district for 44 years. While climbing the success ladder, Dr. Chambers desired to sustain her professional and personal growth through formal education. Thus, sticking with her southern roots, she attended Oklahoma State University (OSU), where she obtained a master's degree in 1974.

Dr. Chambers made a seamless transition from teacher to payroll clerk, later business manager in which she garnered invaluable experience to become the assistant superintendent of business affairs, serving in this capacity from 1977 to 1987. She returned to OSU and acquired a doctorate in education in 1980. That same year, she published "The Evolution of School Financial Accounting: The United States From 1910 to 1980 and Oklahoma from 1907 to 1980." In 1985, Dr. Chambers was appointed to administer Bartlesville Public School's financial dealings when she was promoted to the position of treasurer; this was the last title she held before her retirement in 1994. Prior to retiring, Dr. Chambers served as a financial accounting consultant for the Oklahoma State Department of Education.

Not only is Dr. Chambers widely known for her financial literacy skills in the education arena, but she also advised several other entities over the course of her career. She served from 1984-1994 as Director of Plaza National Bank of Bartlesville, OK. Under her leadership, Bartlesville and two other school districts established the Oklahoma Insurance Association, which pioneered self-funded workers' compensation in Oklahoma. She served as treasurer until 1995.

Although she is officially retired, Dr. Chambers continues to be a motivator for youths. She was a member of the board of directors of MUTUAL Girls Club from 1981 to 2016. The faith-based organization provides young girls the opportunity to learn life skills, discover their God-given talents, and establish a connection with Jesus Christ. She furthered her career by aligning herself with like-minded individuals and organizations, such as the Oklahoma Association of School Business Officials, Association of School Board Officials International, Oklahoma Retired Educators Association, Washington County Retired Educational Personnel Association, and life member of both Oklahoma State University (OSU) Alumni and East Central State University Alumni Association.

In addition to her status as a Lifetime Achiever, Dr. Chambers received the Eagle Service Award for Outstanding Service to school, community, and profession from the Association of School Business Officials International, presented to her at the ASBO International Convention in Boston, MA in l993.

Dr. Chambers has been a featured listee in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who of American Women.
