With more than 60 years of professional experience, Dr. Meyers has been recognized as a professor emeritus of language and literature of East Stroudsburg University since 2013, having previously taught as an associate professor and full professor of English beginning in 1966. Prior to these roles, he was an instructor and lecturer at such institutions as Temple University, Hunter College, Brooklyn College, and Pratt Institute. He was also a production manager with Harrison Advertising in 1960 and an intern with the Brooklyn Daily Newspaper from 1956 to 1957.
Dr. Meyers began his career as a student at Jewish Theological Seminary, and he received a Diploma in Teaching from Hebrew Union College. In 1956, he engaged in additional coursework at the University of Oxford. Subsequently, Dr. Meyers earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Brooklyn College in 1957, a Master of Arts in English from Columbia University in 1959, and a Doctor of Philosophy from New York University in 1963.
As a respected leader in the field, Dr. Meyers has been involved with a number of committees throughout his career. Since 1967, he has been a member of the College-Wide Educational Policies Committee, the Library Committee, the Institute of the Arts, the Committee on International Education, the English Department Executive Committee, the English Department Search Committee, the English Department Awards Committee, and the Faculty Senate. He served for two years as faculty advisor to The Stroud Courier student newspaper. He was also the chairman of the Committee on International Education from 1990 to 1998. In addition to his primary roles at East Stroudsburg University, Dr. Meyers briefly worked as a lecturer at the University of Pavia in Italy in 1985, a professor at the University of Oxford in 1984, a visiting professor at the Newark College of Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology from 1969 to 1970, and a visiting professor at Rutgers University in 1968.
An expert in academia, Dr. Meyers is affiliated with several professional organizations, including the Dramatists Guild of America, the Modern Language Association, The New York Academy of Sciences, the Global Awareness Society, and the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts. In addition, he served as a campus liaison for the American Association of University Professors from 1971 to 1973.
Dr. Meyers has found much success with his writing, currently working in his retirement as a columnist and monthly book reviewer for "Viewpointe of Boca Pointe" since 2013. Previously, he authored the book "Waiting for Godiva," published in 2002, which he considers to be among the brighter highlights of his career. He has also contributed several articles to professional journals, worked as a freelance writer for off-Broadway workshops, and contributed to "Kingsman" and rose to the position of Associate Editor of the student newspaper at Brooklyn College.
In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Meyers was honored with the Sophomore Award from Brooklyn College in 1954. In addition, he has been recognized in the 64th through 67th editions of Who's Who in America. Married to Rina Buchshriber until her passing, Dr. Meyers has two children and five grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys studying languages, traveling, and playing golf.
