Lisa Souther Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Souther is renowned in her community for her work as an educator. She is a published author and has spoken at many educational conferences. Through her outstanding educational leadership and curriculum instruction, she assists teachers in meeting the academic needs of every student. Through the implementation of the Iredell Statesville Schools continuous improvement model, Dr. Souther promotes collaboration and leads staff development that contributes to success in the classroom for both teachers and students. Additionally, she assists and supports the principal with data analysis and curriculum changes, facilitates teacher effectiveness and many other leadership duties.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to education, Dr. Souther was voted the district Instructional Facilitator of the Year. She currently works at Cool Spring Elementary School as the instructional facilitator and school RTI-coordinator, a position she has held since 2013. For the past two years, she has also served as a district math foundations trainer and provides professional development for teachers from many different schools across the district. During the past two summers, she has worked as an administrator for highly successful reading camps. Dr. Souther began her career in 1992 as a private music teacher at Melody Studio. In 1999, she began teaching music at Fairview Fine Arts Academy in Statesville, NC. She also served as the instrumental music teacher and fine arts director at Southview Christian School from 1995 to 2004. As the fine arts director, she composed and arranged many band and orchestral pieces, which lead to several years of first place awards in school competitions. After working as a substitute teacher in the public school, Dr. Souther took a position as a full-time general education teacher in 2006. Upon completing seven years in the classroom and serving in many leadership roles, she became an instructional facilitator.

With an obvious passion for learning, Dr. Souther's academic career is extensive. She graduated with a doctorate degree in educational leadership from Wingate University in 2015, and was awarded an education specialist degree, a principal license, and superintendent license from Wingate University in 2014. In 2010, she earned her National Board Certification. She also holds a master's degree in elementary education and a Bachelor of Science in accounting, along with an additional math grade 6-9 certification.

Dr. Souther has made a career in service of her community. She has been a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, IRA, Alpha Kappa Omega, and the McDowell Music Club. Dr. Souther decided to pursue a career in education after seeing a need for good public school teachers, and began her career as a public school teacher. After seven successful years, she felt that she could make a bigger difference serving in educational leadership, and worked to provide a great academic foundation for students from which to grow and learn. She loves her career and finds working with children, and making a difference in each child's life, fulfilling and rewarding.

Dr. Souther has been married to Brian Keith Souther since 1989. They have four children: Ashley, Deanna, Keri, and Jared. Her daughter Ashley is happily married with two children; she works at Global Vision Group as the operations manager. After earning a degree in animal science, her second daughter Deanna served two years with AmeriCorps. Currently, she is working on her master's degree and teaching 3rd grade. Her daughter Keri is pursuing a master's degree and works for a TV station as a marketing consultant. Her son Jared is currently working in the technology department at the university where he is studying computer programming. In her spare time, Dr. Souther enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, learning, doing photography, scrapbooking, skiing, reading, and painting.
