Alma Irene Horton-Wright Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    AUSTIN, TX, March 16, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Alma Irene Horton-Wright with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Horton-Wright celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. A certified teacher in the state of California and Texas who has since retired, Ms. Horton-Wright taught elementary, junior high school and adult education between 1971 and 1984. She taught throughout California, including for the Rialto Unified School Districts, as well as at the Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma as a speed reading facilitator and later as a GED instructor with Altus Adult Education. While obtaining her degree and certification, she spent eight years as an instructional aide for San Bernardino USD. She was also a data transcriber for the Internal Revenue Service/U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Ms. Horton-Wright first studied at Nixon Clay Business College in Austin, TX, for just over one year before earning an Associate of Arts in liberal arts at San Bernardino Valley College in 1976. She then completed a Bachelor of Arts at California State University in 1979, an Associate of Arts in commercial art at Western Oklahoma State University in 1984, graduate coursework at the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Arts in education from Prairie View Agricultural and Mechanical University in 1993. She became a certified licensed manicurist through the Crescent Beauty College of Cosmetology in 1962.

The recipient of an Oak Springs Elementary School Service and Commitment Award in 2001 and an Oak Springs Elementary Teacher of the Year Award for 2001-2002 for her commitment to education, Ms. Horton-Wright also received a Texas Governor Rick Perry Resolution in Recognition of Commitment to Education in 2001. For her community involvement, she received a Faithful Member and Seasoned Saints Honor from the East Side Church of Christ in 2009, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Edwards Ministerial Association, Inc., in 2015. Furthermore, during her time at the Altus Air Force Base, Ms. Horton-Wright won an Art Consolation Prize for Mixed Media Collage and was a recipient of a Certificate of Appreciation from the U.S. Air Force for devoted services of spousal support between 1963 and 1985.

A longstanding member of the Texas Retired Teacher Association and the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., and a charter member of the National Museum of African American History, Ms. Horton-Wright was married for many years to retired Master Sergeant Henry S. Wright until his passing. She has four children (Sheila, Stanley, Gregory and Gerry), five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition, she loves to travel, read and enjoy art in her down time, as well as spend time with her family. Ms. Horton-Wright has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
