Ernest Eugene Moore, MD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Moore is an established surgeon who spent his entire career at the Rocky Mountain Regional Trauma Center at Denver General in Denver, CO. Serving as chief of trauma for 36 years and chief of the department of surgery for 26 years until 2012, when he became Editor of the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. His vision and oversight led to the hospital becoming internationally recognized for innovative care of the injured, with its trauma research laboratory being funded by the National Institutes of Health for more than 30 consecutive years. During his tenure at Denver General, Dr. Moore was also recognized as the first Bruce M. Rockwell distinguished chair in trauma surgery.

Dr. Moore has previously served on various other professional journals as editor and associate editor, and is the co-editor of the textbook "Trauma," currently in its eighth edition, as well as "Surgical Secrets" in its seventh edition, and "Trauma Induced Coagulopathy." He has contributed approximately 1,600 articles to professional journals as author and co-author, and he has lectured extensively worldwide.

Long affiliated with the University of Colorado at Denver, he continues to be clinically active and teach as a distinguished professor of surgery and has served as vice chairman for research of the department of surgery since 1984. Contributing his time and effort to numerous professional organizations throughout his career, where he has served as president of nine of them, including the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the International Association for the Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care, and the World Society of Emergency Surgery, and as vice president of the American Surgical Association. He is an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand, and the American College of Emergency Physicians, and is an honorary member of the Brazilian Trauma Society, the Colombian Trauma Society, the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery and the Trauma Association of Canada.

A patent holder for several innovations, , Dr. Moore has received numerous awards throughout his career for his efforts, including Lifetime Achievement Awards from the American Heart Association, American College of Critical Care Medicine , Shock Society, and Society of University Surgeons.. He also received a Robert Danis Prize from the Society of International Surgeons, an Orazio Campione Prize from the World Society of Emergency Surgery and a Philip Hench Award from the University of Pittsburgh.

Completing a Bachelor of Science in chemistry at Allegheny College in 1968, followed by an MD at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1972, Dr. Moore completed his residency training in surgery at The University of Vermont in Burlington between 1972 and 1976. Married to his wife Sara Van Duzer since 1978, they have two children. Dr. Moore's wife (internist) and two children (internist and surgeon) are all academic physicians.
